Congratulations Chris.

I'm trying to convince my girlfriend to get a 3240 HST and the dealer is asking $18,850 with the 724 FEL. Sound alright?

What bucket options are you looking at? From the quote that I have, list for the HST tractor with R1's, LA724 loader, Quick tach adapter, and the L2296 HD 72" bucket should come to about $22,500. 15% off that should get you to around $19,000...so it looks like you are right in line.

I feel bad for the guys in the northeast who are stuck paying list price.... :(

Thanks for the link - I'll give them a call tomorrow.

10' high snow banks? Then it's definitely time for a snowblower!

Chris

We got another 18" of snow Tuesday night and all day Wednesday.
Here's a picture from after my 2 1/2 hours of ploughing

The quote was for the standard bucket (L 2235), but the L2296 would only add $250 to the price. The dealer said he rarely gets a request for the HD bucket and that he thinks the standard one is fine for homeowner use. Do you think differently?

I thought the same thing at first, but as I got feedback from some of the folks here, the common theme was about material sticking inside the bucket. The round back bucket helps material come out much easier. There were some comments earlier in this thread about that topic.

For an extra $250, it seemed worth it to me.

Northland - that's alotta snow! Everything is in chaos down here today because we're getting 8-12".... It's just business as usual for you :)

One other thing; the quote I got is for R4's. Does that effect price much?

Anyway, here is the package:
L3240HST w/ R1's
LA724 Loader w/ Quick Tach
L2296 72" HD bucket w/ cutting edge
BH90 Backhoe w/ subframe
BT2903 18" Bucket

Total pre-tax MSRP is $31,076. Dealer is knocking 15% off, for a total of $26,495. From my research, that seems like a decent price. Any comments?

Chris

I'm still floored by that price. Last summer, I got a price on the L3400 w/R4s, LA463 w/66" QA bucket, Woods BH80X w/12" bucket for $25,495, and I think that was a good price for this area.

The R4's are a few dollars more. Not a huge difference though.

Looks like the "big" snowstorm missed us...ended up with about 4" instead of 12". The dealer dropped off an older L2900GST for me to play with, and that made quick work of snow removal with a 6' rear blade.

The R1 tires worked great in the snow, but were a different story on our icy street. Chains might be in order in the future...

Jerry,

Congratulations on yours! When is your delivery coming?

I had planned on the FST for a long time. I'm a manual transmission addict, and had no problem driving the FST. But after reading a TON of posts here, and talking to a lot of different people at various dealers, I decided to eat the extra cost for the HST. I'll be doing a lot of loader work, and will be moving through some tight spots while I clear out some of my property...so that was enough to convince me. It ended up being around an extra $1500 for me. Hopefully I don't regret it!

Enjoy your new tractor. We'll be looking forward to pictures.

Chris

Hey, Chris:

Got my new tractor today. I'm going to try to upload some pics. Here goes.

Great Looking tractor!

Is that a Kubota Canopy?

nice machines Guys-I am envious of those big rigs with the LA724 FEL-I would imagine there is not much that that loader will not handle:D

I too am interested in the canopy

Nothing could be better looking than a brand new L3240 in the Texas Hill Country :D

Yeah, that is a Kubota canopy. I think it was a $300.00 option, which I didn't think was too bad. I got quotes from other dealers for as much as $750.00.

ALso, that 724 FEL is great. I picked up several rocks and moved them, all of them about the size of the bottom of a dining room chair, and the loader acted as if it were empty. It was great

Here's what to look for if you want to test your loader :) This limestone rock is very near the capacity (ability to lift and carry) of my LA724 loader.

Wow!! That makes the rocks I was picking up look like slingshot ammo.

I have a question, though. Would adding a tooth bar facilitate picking up those rocks? I was trying to scrape some dirt off for a driveway this past weekend, and there is so much rock under the soil that I can't get a good bite of the dirt. I was wondering if a tooth bar would help break it loose so I can go back and pick it up on a second pass, but I don't want to screw up the loader doing that. I can always hire a bulldozer to go in and do that for me and then use the FEL to clean up after the dozer.

Hey, Davitk:

I also noticed that the hydraulic lines are kind of out there exposed to limbs and stuff. I might change the routing later, but right now I'm able to make left turns around all the trees, not exposing the lines to getting snagged. That may change as the process goes on where I have to get in between trees, but for the time being, I think it will be okay. Maybe on the 50-hour service, I'll have them move the lines inside the arms for a little more protection.

I'm guessing your property is in the Hill Country based on your previous pictures. If so....

Unless you are taking about a riparian area, there is a very good chance the "rock under the soil" is actually the top part of very thick limestone layer. The upper part of the layer may be broken up a bit by roots etc. But even then it is often still pretty solidly interlocked with other "rocks".

IOW if you were able to blow away all the soil, the rocks would look like a loose fitting jig saw puzzle laying on top of a solid limestone layer. A tooth bar would be better than a std FEL edge. But it would still require you getting the teeth between/under 66-72" of stuff or find an edge/corner that is exposed to get started.

FWIW that is why I got the BH90 with a small bucket. I just turn around and rough up the area before using the FEL to lift/load the now loose material :) But sometimes I find that the rock just under the thin soil is actually a solid thick limestone layer :( In that case, the best way to go is UP.

The rock in the picture and the ones already on the ground are part of one of those limestone layers (actually 3 stacked layers of slightly different color/composition). They are now laid out as a 3D jigsaw puzzle for giants with a few missing pieces to add a degree of difficulty
