I could not find fluid film... so I ended up using PB Penetrating Catalyst, too. Thought it worked well. The can's label gave me a headache trying to read it but it worked...

Will try and use PB Penetrating Catalyst on the PTO cable that STILL sticks... another thing to try and fix #!@*&#$&*(^ (Why that is that NOT a safety recall is fringin' beyond me!!!)

It is my understanding that penetrating oil is good to free up something that is stuck but is not meant as lubricant.

The PTO cable on my L3400 has worked OK until last fall when I was dogging some post holes and the weather was getting cold. Then I started failing to shut off.
Most lubricants get stiff in cold weather so I am tempted to try lubing it with graphite. Has anyone tried using graphite, if you have how well has it worked, or know any reason to not do that?

Has there been any discussion or has anyone tried replacing the return spring that pulls the cable back with one that is a little stronger? It would seem a fairly easy fix for Kubota to make a replacement spring that was a little stronger so it would pull the cable back better. Possible there is and we have not heard about it. My dealer did replace the cable for me but did not say anything about a replacement spring.

I will share my experience with the PTO not shutting off with everyone. I saw the cable on mine kinking and lubed it with one of the motorcycle cable lubers, which by the way works very well on the cable. Just had to loosen the seat belt mount and swivel it out of the way, engage the PTO lever to allow enough room on the cable to install the luber, pull the rubber boot back, and spray the lube in. Forces the lube through the cable in about a second. However, the cable was not the problem. The PTO still would not shut off. I disconnected the cable at the transmission and operated the cable and it moved with no resistance. I then manually operated the lever on the side of the transmission without the cable installed and noticed that it was slow to return to its disengaged position. I don't know if the spring on it is weak or if there is some internal resistance on it, but it just gradually returned to the disengaged position. So what was happening when I disengaged the PTO with the cable was the cable was trying to push the lever at the transmission which was causing it to kink up top. When that happened, the lever at the bottom could not pull the cable. Now when I disengage the PTO instead of forcing the lever up top to the off position, I move it slowly and give the lever at the transmission time to pull the cable. I hope this made sense.

Above is a quote I made in a previous thread about my PTO issues. Hope it helps.

Learn something new every day... thanks, to both of you. I have my seat area ALL apart so seems like a good time to look at the PTO cable issue.

I have found LPS-3 to be the best for anti corrosion out there. It comes in a spray can and kind of foams up. It leaves a waxy lubricant and a very effective rust/corrosion preventitive. Not sure if I would use it on the cables, but on the seat it would be perfect.

Well I'll be darned...a few spritzes of aerokroil and jumped up and down and the seat base a few times and I too have a suspension seat on my L2800. Thanks for the tip. Need to lube it up with some LPS now.

As for the 3PH, mine has never been jerky going up, a little going down if I have my chipper on it and don't feather it but I thinks that's just the weight of the chipper. According to my serial number my tractor got the upgraded valve, if I remember correctly mine was manufactured late 2005 or early 2006.

I have to admit I forgot about this.. It was nice when out on the state gravel road.
Today I got about 6 hours of seat time, and I lubed it up before hand.
It was nice..
I have to drive down the road and boy was that nice!

sometimes outa sight outa mind!

Stumbled across this thread and was surprised to find I had a spring seat .
When I got the tractor I adjusted the seat and it moved upward but never went down .
Put some lube on and jumped up and down on it a couple of time , spring seat now .
Now the other thing is the Hydraulic return hose is cracked and about to leak .

20 dollars or so for the hose and your set.

I used a old style lubricant , starts with a "O" , worked well and had some just setting around in a old style squirt can , had to pump the handle on the squirt can a couple of times though .
