L3400 temperature gauge

My L4400 does the same with the temperature gauge. Ran a baler last week for a few hours and never got over the tick mark.

My fuel gauge is just opposite. It can read just down to the F on the full and I can put 5 gallons in an 11 gallon tank. I have never ran it down to E for that exact reason.

So this is telling me that the temp gauges are pretty much all the same, and I'd better use my own judgement with the fuel gauge.

Strange that Kubota wouldn't have used a temp gauge that read mid-scale when warmed up, so you could tell when it was close to normal operating temperature warming up.

Maybe that little tick mark was meant to be a milestone kind of thing, as in "don't work the tractor hard until you reach this point". The manual doesn't mention anything about it either, or even where the gauge should normally read.

The fuel gauge doesn't surprise me, the tank is an odd shape so it's pretty hard to have any kind of a linear level reading on that.

How many gallons do you fill when it reads 1/4???

I don't remember exactly teg. I think it is around 5.5 gallons.

I do not have an L3400, but this may apply none the less.

My BX24's temperature gauge was working properly at first. However, over a periord of about 1 year, the operating temperature slowly decreased until the temperature gauge never moved. I thought that I needed to replace the thermostat.

I found that the temperature sensor has a spade type connector that had become loose. It was not the wire connnection, but the crimp of the spade piece that is part of the sending unit. Over time the engine vibration slowly worked the crimp loose. The unit is right on top of the BX24 engine and I staked it down with a small punch and a hammer. The stud and spade piece is mounted in a plastic insulator, so you can't stake it too hard. The gauge now returns to mid travel when the engine is up to operating temperature.

Used my L3400 this weekend for an extended period of time cutting fields. I could feel the heat coming from the engine on my legs and the temperature guage stayed just passed the tick mark.
