I have a gear cruncher L 3400. I use it for collecting sap during the spring sugar season. I have the R-4 tires on the back and they seem too close to the fenders to allow chains to slip by without beating up the fenders. I do not know if I want to invest money into chains or figure a way to pump sap up a steep hil. anyone ever put chains on these tires? Also anyone have any Ideas on where to mount a tool box on this tractor not much real estate on these compact tractor. PS Im new here and I really like this site. -sapsucker

Can't help with the chains, but for the toolbox, I cut a short piece (25 cm) of 4" angle and used a square U-bolt to fasten it to my ROPS, just above the rear light on the left side. Bolted the toolbox to that. Simple, strong and keeps it out of the way. Others have put the toolbox on the bracket that holds the SMV triangle behind the seat, but if you use a boom pole or some augers, you'll find yourself crimping your toolbox, sign and bracket. I can post a pic tomorrow if you like.

kubota does sells a spacer kit to give you one inch wider spacing. When I looked into it last summer, they were too pricey for me; $200 for the set.

I have chains on mine, they are a tight fit but no issues. Use bunjie cords on the inside to keep the slack from bulging out and grabbing a fender. They do click once in awhile but on the bolt heads and not the fender.

I wouldnt want to hammer down the road though..

It seems like the spacers and chains are the way to go. A liquid ring vacuum pump is over $2000 dollars. I want to tap this bush but it dead ends down hill at a hunting preserve and they will not let me take sap over there property. With Maple syrup selling wholesale at $3.25 per pound or 35.25 per gallon I need to expand and add taps .At least with chains I can make sure that if things Ice up I will be able to get my sap out of the hole and cooked before I loose grade.-Sap sucker

Did you end up needing the spacers for chains on your L3400? Also, where did you buy your chains? I am looking at getting some for mine.
Thanks, MJ
