Re: Front axle seals

I will have to check that the next time I am operating the girl. Not sure if I tried that or not.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif First I had to replace the light switch assembly because the headlights wouldn't work either then when you cycled the switch there was a spot where they would come on for a second then right back off. When I replaced it they were weather pretty good but that just fixed the headlights and not the hazards. To be honest now that I'm thinking of it----Is there brake lights?? I am trying to picture that and right now can't remember. Huh?

Re: Front axle seals

Not sure on the L35, but the B21 flashers work without the head lights on and there are no brake lights.

Re: Front axle seals

Kubmech,

Is this axle seal situation only with the L35's or is it pretty much universal across the 'bota line?

Re: Front axle seals

On the 3710 the flashers work even if the engine is off, but the headlights will only go on when the key is turned on.

Interesting question about brake lights: I spend so much time with the brakes locked, that it would be odd for a brake light to come on. Bet they just are taillights.

Re: Front axle seals

Mostly L's and the newer B's. If your running solid filled tires it multiplies the problem.

Re: Front axle seals

Joe, I can't believe nobody else chimed in on this one. The combination switch to the left of the steering wheel is for youre lights, the lever is for the turn signals, down, left flash/right steady, up right flash/left steady. If you want your hazards, try the red button to the right of the steering wheel.

Re: Front axle seals

Any idea on how new is too new on the B series? An older B might avoid the problem?

Re: Front axle seals

Newer B's being above B7200. Mostly landscaper and rental units on the B's.

Re: Front axle seals

Kubmech,

Is there a maintenance routine that can extend the life of the seals? Or is this pretty much a case of: "They're gone when they're gone."

Re: Front axle seals

Other than keeping that area clean and avoiding solid filled or weighted front wheels if possible, I really can't suggest anything else.

Re: Front axle seals

Filled or weighted tires are putting strain on the front end? Would running with a full loader do the same thing? Should 4x be avoided?

SHF

PS Thanks for the tip.

Re: Front axle seals

Well, if you don't need 4x4 don't use it. That will save wear and tear on the whole front drive system. As far as the full loader or weighted front end (suitcase weights) Sure that's a factor but that's what the front end is designed for, but hanging 50-75 lbs directly off of the axle is a whole other story.

Re: Front axle seals

Is it possible for the front axles seals to stop leaking? I have been checking the seal situation out and it appears to have ceased. I know the first thing you will think is that the oil level is gone but I check that as well and it up to the hole. Is it possible that something could have jammed up in there because I cleaned the area good awhile back from dirt and such because I painted the area to make it look purty/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif? Shoot if you say no then maybe it's becuase the darn thing needs to get dirty again and not look so dang shiny. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Front axle seals

well, uhmm, hmmm, ah, ok, maybe you have those self healing seals/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Just keep an eye on it.......

Re: Front axle seals

I like that---keep the area clean---. That is impossible for me to do I spend alot of time in the mud. Guess I could take a hose to her once in awhile for the heck of it./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Front axle seals

Thanks kubmech for the response. Here are the symptoms. When I push in the hazard light (center with triangle on it), both turn signals flash. If I also at the same time push the turn signal indiator in either direction, that side starts to flash and the other side stays solid (lighted but doesn't flahs).

But if the harzard switch is not engaged, if I use the turnsignal switch in either direction, that direction flashes and the other side comes on and stays solid!

Re: Front axle seals

In response to your Brake light question, if it hasnt been already answered, the L35 doesnt come with brake lights. Sorry if anyone has already proposed a solution to your question I just havent had enough time to read over all replies.

Re: Front axle seals

Boy when a persons wrong we should admit it right?/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Anyway what I wanted to let you know, if you didn't already, that upon further looking into my front axles seal leaks I removed all the plugs (fill and check) and noticed none coming from the check one. Hmmmm there was a drop on the fill plug threads and thats all that I must have seen when checking it awhile back. Well I added oil to the front axle and hopefully nothing to bad happen. I haven't ran it in 4wd or actually in any drive to much lately so that is probably good. Anyway I have no self healing seals /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif But most of you probably new that anyway. ha,ha.

Here is a question- when I was using the unit yesterday I was running the loader and noticed that when I placed the bucket edge on the pile the rods would compress back into the cylinder. HUH? When I moved the bucket in the opposite direction it would come back out and stay out. Also another strange thing happens too when using the backhoe there is a stall in teh hydraulics for a second and then it will work fine again. Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks

Re: Front axle seals

Thanks kubota-monkey that probably would be a heck of a job for the brake lights to be going on and off all the time/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I know what you mean about not having enought time to read through all of them. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
