I've not noticed much if any commentary on similarities/differences between the two.

Are they essentially the same machine with the L48 having the hydro tranny??

I understand maybe subtle differences in loader/hoe but those not withstanding, is the tranny the significant difference?

If they are substantially similar, is the hoe on the 48 just as fast/jerky/spastic as on the 35? Can that be calmed down in any way?

Considering selling Brutus (in fact, in local paper right now) and if sold, maybe getting L-48 as GST does NOT work for me & my hills /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Richard,

They are quite different, although the concept is the same. The L48 was built on the M-series frame, and really has M-series "beef". I haven't driven one but I got a nice chance to check one over up close several months ago, next to an L35.

L48 over L35...

- Quite a bit larger
- More horsepower
- Higher hydraulic capacity
- Better loader/backhoe
- Larger tires
- More weight

And that's just the obvious stuff... take a look at the L48 and you'll understand that this machine is an VERY heavy duty machine, and a clear step up from the L35 in every category except compact size. It does, however, push $40k at some dealers, and for that kind of money, you could be looking at a used full size TLB if pure size, power, and force is what you are after. But for a TLB-grade tractor with detachable backhoe, and 3-point hitch, this tractor is pretty much in a league of its own.

Thanks Muhammad,

In fact I'm trying right now to sell my full sized TLB so that I can step down in size, gain flexability & STILL have a strong backhoe. I had two primary thoughts/concerns,

1. The 35's hoe is fast as lightning and I'd rather have it a touch slower

2. Stability of machine. I rented the 35 one weekend and was VERY puckered at times on a specific hillside /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif. Brutus conquers that hill with ease and no puckers /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I HOPE with the L48 being built on M series frame that it might be inherently MORE stable than the 35??

Those issues are some you would have to find out for yourself, or perhaps talk to an L48 owner who has also used an L35. Without any time on an L48 I could only guess on those issues. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I ahte to do this but the L-48 is not on the M-series chassis. It is built around the L-4610 chassis and it is reinforced the same as it's little brothers. It is far smoother on the b-hoe as far as swing as it slows down when reaching the end of it's path. The L-48 is as much more unit to the L-35 as the L-35 is more than it's little brother the B-21. Owners have all been extremely happy with the L-48 as compared to the L-35.

Richard; I can't comment on comparison to an L35, but until today I have been much happier with my L48 rather than the L3600GST I traded in. However, I reserve the right to change my mind as it appears that I have some PTO power problems, waiting for the dealer to call back. Seems as though the PTO shaft is slipping??

I wouldn't have said that if I didn't get the info from what I thought was a reliable source. In this case, I got the information from a Kubota factory rep. If it was in fact built on the L4610's chassis, I don't really have a problem with that... and don't want to spread incorrect information. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
