I hope you realize that tongue weight is only half the battle. If you are above the towing capacity of the truck, it doesn't much matter if you are within tongue weight rating, you are still above the vehicle limits. Not to mention that the tow vehicle and tongue loading do not remain static as you tow. Now you can argue about how much "fudge factor" is built into those ratings, but it is still the only number you have to go on. And the legal limit if you get pulled over or in an accident (however likely that is).It really depends on how you set your rig up. With a long enough trailer it is not too difficult to load a tractor so you don't have too much, or too little, tongue weight.
