I am going to go drive another DK40se hst tomorrow. The local dealer said he would have it together for me to test tomorrow. I saw it in the crate 2 days ago.

If I go with the Kubota, should I pay $1500 extra and get it local? I have talked to the local dealer about the price. This year he quoted it at $21,200 but after talking to his manager he said the best he could do was $21,000. He quoted me the same tractor late in the day on December 31st 2013 and the price was $19,999. After the new year on Jan 2, 2014 the new price is now settled at $21,000.
They said all the good promotions ended on December 31st, even though the dealer was closed and I got the quote from his smart phone late in the evening Dec 31st. There was no possible was for me to buy it on the 31'st due to his late quote.

Oh well, Kentucky dealer will do it for $19,500.

Should I travel (4 hours 20 min each way) and save $1500 or buy 30 min away and have local dealer support if needed.

BTW, I plan to do all my own maintenance. I have 2 years of diesel training, 2 years of GM automotive training with a degree in automotive technology. I worked at a GM dealer for 2 years and worked factory maintenance for 13 years.
So, the moral is... I plan to take care of all the maintenance. The warranty would only be used If a part fails.

My new local price for the DK40se HST is $22,700 for the new year. It has ROPS, R4 tires and 401 loader.

Why pay more to somebody who is lying to you?

Personally I ended up with my Kubota L3200 from a dealer 30 min away because I was to lazy to go a few hours away to the nearest Kioti dealer. I regret not comparison shopping, but not getting my L3200. I hear the Kiotis are good machines.

As far as the drive pulling a trailer being worth the discount? That's something for you to compute.

Between you and me... and not because I am biased, I would buy the Kioti, because it is considerably more tractor than the L3800 for not a whole lot more money. The local Kubota dealer is being a ..... use what ever adjective you like here. Buy the Kioti and don't look back.

The local Kubota dealer I would use is not the one who told me that the warranty would not be honored from another dealer.
I Have only talked to the questionable, to say the least, dealer on the phone.

The local I would use has been real nice to deal with.
He just said that there was nothing he could do about the expiring promotions from 2013.

I looked on the "questionable" dealers web site and the guy I talked to is the son of the owner. I would not use this dealer after todays conversation.

I personally would buy from my dealer if it was 1500 higher than one 4rs away but only cause they are a good dealer. By the time you make the trip it close's the $gap some and if you had to make it later on just say had to drop it off for warranty work, then turn around and go back to get it,well you get what I am getting too. Only if the closer dealer is a good dealer and cause its 8hr round trip to the other. Others probably not going to agree with but that's just my opinion...

Try the kioti out,may not even have to make the other decision...

The Kioti dealer had the DK40hst w/ loader for $22,500 last year. The free loader ended for the DK40 Dec. 31st.
The new price is $22,999 but he said he could do $22,700.

There is no way I would go back to Kentucky for warranty. I think the odds of needing the warranty are very slim. If I do need it, I will probably be at the very back of the line if they truly do hate working on other dealer tractors.

The Kentucky Dealer is very well respected here (on the forum) and I think they would work with me over the phone if I needed a warranty part.

A little confusing, but sounds like you have one good dealer and one bad dealer. Just deal with the good one and since he is $1500 higher than 'out-of-town' see if he will throw in a couple extras, like loading the rear tires etc... I'd pay a little more to stay local.

I looked at Kioti when I was shopping, but liked Kubota better. I've had my L3800 for two years and have been very impressed with it!

$1500 savings is getting marginal in my book for that long of a round trip -- you're probably looking at 10-12 hours total when all is said and done. That's a lot of hassle and opportunity for problems. I traveled 110 miles round trip to pickup my L3200 a few weeks ago only because I was also bringing a trade-in to the dealer to appraise as part of the deal. Otherwise I would have gladly paid their delivery fee instead of tying up half a day and burning a bunch of gas (I get about 14-16mpg when towing).

Barlows delivers for about $1 per mile. That's another option to consider if you like working with them and want to minimize hassle on your end (seriously, they drive up with a tractor and you give them a check -- done). I got a great price quote from Barlows, but they were slow in answering e-mails (like 7-10 days between responses) so I bought local for a little more money since we got close to the the end of the year when the incentives were set to expire. Still, I'd give them a shot if I ever buy again.

I wouldn't worry about warranty. If the local dealer gives you crap, tell them you moved from out of state and brought your tractor with you. If they hold that against you, they are real jerks!
