What jerky issue? Granted, I have only had my Brush Bull on it, but I haven't noticed a "jerky issue". The only problem I've noticed is that the fwd/rev pedal has to be right in the middle for the thing to start. Once you figure that out it isn't a problem.

The Jerky issue is if you try to move the 3pt lift up smoothly slowly, it will not do so. At least mine wont, you can move the lift down, slowly and smoothly all you want, to "feather" the position, but you cannot move it up slowly to get to a particular position, it will be a sequence of "jerks". If you move the control in one rapid/moderate up, motion of your hand it will just jerk once at the end of the 3 point travel motion. What I do is just raise it up past where I want it to be, then "feather" it down to the exact position where I want it. I hope this makes some sense. it is kinda hard to describe this, but easy to see in action. If you lower the hydraulic pressure/flow rate (?) to the 3pt, by operating the lift of the front end loader at the same time as you try to raise the 3pt, the problem is solved it will raise smoothly and slowly without jerking.

Well, I haven't noticed anything like you describe with my L3700, but I guess I haven't been looking for it. I will play with it before I take the Brush Bull off for the winter.

I haven't had any problem with my L3700 3pt. And as for the L3800 they are
both on the Kubota web site. And if you look at the specifications they show the L3700SUHST tops the L3800HST in several area's. Even with the new loader & backhoe. Kenney

priced and bought the tractor and loader only for 19,000....haven't decided on the implements yet due to the fact we have never owned a tractor before. We would hire the work in the past (brush cutting and road maintenance) and decided to look into getting our own. we will have it delivered on monday so wish us luck!:thumbsup:

Just stopped @ Emerichs yesterday, they have the new L3800, one with Turfs and the other with R4's. Neither had loaders on them yet, nice looking machine----humm, I wonder?

I sure know what you mean; lots of decisions and no matter how much you know or research, you still may make the wrong decision. I bought a tiller because my mom gardens and several family members also expressed an interest in gardening. My 88 year old mother still prefers to work the soil with a shovel and once the others realized gardening=work, they lost interest. No more than I have used it, I could have rented one and used the money on something else.

As to the size of the brush cutter, how many acres do you plan to mow with it, and what kind of material? I've mowed a 15 acre field in about 7 hours with the L3400 and a 5 foot cutter, what I'd call moderate grass and weed. That was in 1 or 2 high, which doesn't translate well to HST speeds. In any case, moving any faster would have been a poor cut job.

The 3800 HST has 31.5 HP at the PTO, I believe, so with the 3400 DT having 30 they aren't that far apart power-wise. Mine will mow heavy meadow grass in 3 low range without too much effort, but it's definitely loaded. A six footer might be too much mower in heavy going, I don't honestly know.

My main concern aside from available power would be the weight of the cutter hanging off the 3 point arms. My 5 foot Land Pride 1860 weighs 660 pounds, and the L3400 wouldn't want too much more hanging back there over rough ground. 700-750 would probably be ok, 800 might not be so good. The 3800 has the same lift capacity on the 3ph as the L3400, as far as I know, and weighs slightly more, I think. I do mow with the loader removed for better maneuverability, it would be a counterweight if I left it on.

The bucket: I opted for the pinned bucket as opposed to the quick connect, and there have been times I wish I hadn't. You'll gain the weight of the bucket in lift capacity if you can remove it, which is at least 300 pounds. If you plan to use a set of forks or bale spear, it's easier to slide two levers than remove 4 pins.

Anyway, my :2cents: has been duly offered, enjoy the new tractor !! We're wishful of lots of detailed pictures of things like the dash, control layouts, etc. The online pics aren't that great, so we're waiting for a new owner to take pity on us. And TEG is looking for an online manual for the part numbers for the 3 point valve.. I just know it..

Thank you Chilly807, even though the purchase fell through, I wil buy somewhere else, so all of your helpful information was dually noted! I will stick with the 5' cutter, I will be cutting about the same as you so it makes sense:thumbsup:

For those that have the 2004-05 - I can't see why you could not just buy the replacement valve from your dealer (the same one that was put into mine). IF your dealer will sell it... dozens were replaced like mine and are very nice. ...at the time is was $400-ish.

As for the newer models, I have a hard time believing that the valve/casting was changed so that the Grand L valves would not work anymore (but I could see them doing that to keep anyone from doing it.)

You'll have to have a really good dealer... one that would go out on a limb for you.
