L4150 starting problems

I have a L4150 that has a problem starting. When you turn the key most times notking happens or tou just get a click sound. Sometimes after repeated turning the starter will turn over an the tractor starts. Most times it needs a boost and starts as soon as the cables are hooked up. What is the problem?

Ground at frame clean?

Whenever I have starting 'Issues' with Machines around here, 9 times out of 10 It's a corroded Connection...

L4150's are notorious for building resistance in the wiring, connectors, and glow plug circuit reducing voltage to the soleniod. The fix for this, is to install a starter relay circuit so the solenoid will get full battery voltage. Of course you still have to make sure that the battery is good, the grounds and terminals are clean, etc. There is still the chance that the contacts inside the solenoid are burnt too.

Advice:

Start with the easy stuff first.
Remove the battery cables, clean the posts and clamps and try again. It is unlikely the battery is bad as it would likely not start after repeated attempts. Normally, a bad battery just gets less and less oomph with each successive attempt.
