I finally was able to get it apart:D I found the serious problem I was looking for. There is substantial wear to the needle bearing and it nearly devastated the bevel casting. I still need to press out the old needle bearing case to reinstall new parts.

Metal shavings everywhere! After getting it apart, inspected everything and began cleaning it all up. I will also replace all rubber ORings between the Bevel Shaft and bevel gear case.

This had been apart before. That I am sure of:confused:. The bevel gears looked to be in excellent condition. The bevel gear coming from the yolk did not have a ring clip on the shaft. I checked the book and it did not show an updated part (Gear and Bearing) with lack of ring clip. In the picture, it's visible the there is a "place" for the ring clip. I will be leaving this alone as it shows no wear and tear as with the bevel gear (Lower portion).

Lastly, upon inspecting the bevel shaft itself, I was able to see PLIER marks on the shaft itself :mad:from previous repair? The shaft will not be replaced during this repair.

I feel pretty good right now with having it apart and seeing what it needs:licking:. Fortunately, Ronnie (Tractorsmart) is already shipping what I thought I would need to replace.

One more thing. If you own a tractor or equipment invest in the workshop manual. There are 4-5 pages addressing just this repair. Tru Bota mechanics use them regularly(I am not a mechanic, just brave). Mine is a reproduction and was around 80$. Great investment. New tractors are expensive and these type of repairs, as it was put to me by a close farmer friend of mine, "that's just part of it!" As I had bleeding knuckles and smashed fingers.

Great pictures and narrative nightowl!! I am an aircraft mechanic and am enjoying seeing someone doing this kind of work. Gives a sense of accomplishment when done...and it costs a whole lot less!!

Bigger hammer

Almost sick engineering. I made a shim the same diameter of the bevel casing and tried a puller. Pullers are about as dumb as a bag of hammers, when they don't work. After fighting it I took a small chain and put it around the bevel planetary housing 'hub' with a 8 ton jack on my heavier now shim. Put the chain around the jack and (made) a portable press :confused2:You cannot imagine how much pressure it took, mind you, this part should "fall" off. As mentioned prior, it had to come off! It did, it pulled the oil seal out of it's fitted area (was getting new one anyway). The hang up was simple, there is the peiced together bearing ? and the top of it had changed 'integrity' hanging the whole thing up. Probably from the heat and wear. A new complete bearing set is on the way as well. I am replacing almost everything in that bevel houseing pdf I posted earlier. I will quote someone from earlier, the smaller the part the cheaper, usually" so why skimp now with it all apart. It had been failing for quite some time. I reccommend to all, change that bevel oil in your Botas, oil is cheap and this is 'catchable earlier'. THAT BEVEL 'SPINDLE' PART IS A CAST SECTION AND IT'S $500 WITHOUT BEARING AND ALL THE INTERNALS.

I know this is long winded but it was a heckofa day.......

If your bevel gears had been updated with the L5450 gears there won't be any cir-clips holding them on. The gears are too wide and cover up the cir-clip groove. I was doing this update before most people knew about it.
