L4200 GST questions - Help!

Hello Nathan,
Looking at your pictures I think you may have it upside down. My shuttle needs to be raised to move out of neutral and into forward or reverse. There is a lock-out notch, I think on the bottom of the assembly that the spring places the lever into when you are in neutral. If I understand you, yours is never held in that lever down neutral position… that could present a problem as an accidental bump of your shuttle could cause it to go forward. The way the lock-out notch should work is to make you raise the shuttle lever to move it forward or back. If this makes no sense tell me and I will take mine apart and take a picture and post it tomorrow. KennyV.

Yes, what you said makes sense. Looking at the diagram it looked upside down and I can see the lock-out notch and understand how it should work.

I just don't understand why someone would put the spring on there upside down. You can tell it has been that way a long time because it has put a groove in the handle where the spring attaches. I guess maybe they didn't like to have to raise the handle to move it forward or back? They way it is set right now you have to push it down to move it forward or back because the spring pushing the handle down against the bottom plate anyway.

Oh well, it will have to remain a mystery but I will turn the spring back around.

Thanks, Nathan

I switched the spring around and the shift works better now and you don't have to mash down on the lever to get it started.

I got the seat fixed for the most part in another post.

My parts for the tilt steering wheel and all my filters aren't going to get here until Monday the 10th! I guess that's the price I pay for saving a few bucks ordering online.

I still haven't messed with trying to figure out what is wrong with the hazard lights. I don't plan on using it on the highway anyway.

Hopefully when I change the fluid and filters the grinding shifting gears on the high side of the GST will go away.

Lastly when tinkering with it some more and using it a bit I've noticed the front axle has a leak and maybe the power steering has a leak. More fun stuff to work on.

Thanks again for the help.

Nathan
