L4350 Starter/Electrical Problem

My Pop in law's L4350 was parked for 2 days and then it wouldn't start. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Lights on dash were dim, sometimes bright. Starter bench tests just fine. Clutch switch seems fine. Grounded and re grounded ground wire. Not even a click out of the solenoid - Well, every once in a while. Hooked it up to my NH to jump and it seemed to work OK - Turned over but not enough juice to fire. Replaced battery - Still nuttin! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Grandpa can't find his owners manual so we can't look it up. What are we missing? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Sounds like your battery was low… charge it and then…
When you first turn the key to on are you waiting for the glow plug indicator to go out before you turn the key to start? KennyV.

I have had the same problem with my 4350 for the last 2 years. I have replaced the battery, put in heavier ground wire, rewired from battery to starter and sometimes still acts like the battery is deaaaad.... I have found that by rapidly reclicking the ignition to start it will, after 5-8 x suddenly fire up as though nothing is wrong. My mechanic checked starter, solenoid, battery and resistance in wiring - nothing wrong. I hope someone can point out when this little bug lives, cause I'd like to know too!!

Have you ever tried checking or replaceing the ignition switch and checking the wire connections on the switch.The tow motors where I work will do the same thing from time to time and replaceing the switch has gotten me out of trouble a couple of times.

There is a fusible link that plugs in near the starter - a heavy red wire loops out and back into a white plug. They get corroded and then don't conduct enough power at normal voltage to run the solenoid and/or starter. Try unplugging and re-plugging it. Or try jumping it with another wire. I keep a spare new one hanging on a peg. As always, prompt cheerful refund if info is bogus. Take care, Dick B
