I think for using a grading scraper float would almost be needed.

Since the 3-point already floats, how would a floating top-link help?

I could be wrong as I don't have one yet but a grading scrapper (and attachments like it) need to adjust to changes on the ground. A floating 3pt would just allow the attachment to raise and lower not change angles to match the ground.

I don't use a grading scraper, just a box scraper, similar, but not identical, but from looking at the video on Everything Attachments in which a standard top-link appears to be in use, the equipment needs to remain level in order to make the ground level. To allow rotational movement and follow existing ground contours would appear to be counter productive.

I have only been using a hydraulic top-link for about a year, so I too am learning and welcome any advice/correction.

All three points automatically float anyway. They will raise up regardless unless you have an hydraulic toplink. Draft control always the float to be reduced so that it raises even easier if you are in an application that needs to be more sensitive than the standard. You can keep the implement from going down and set to a specific depth but not the other way around.

Curious as to why, I know people use them for bat-wing mowers, but don't know why you would need it otherwise.

Can't remember where I saw it suggested... but that's why I'm asking you guys.

Beats me too, maybe someone with more experience can help us both.

I use the float function on the top link when plowing snow with the rear blade, pulling the box blade and when cutting with the rotary mower. The float mode lets the top link freely extend or retract so when I am plowing snow the blade doesn't ride up and down with the tractor and leave humps on the drive. It is used the same way with the box blade and is noticeable when working uneven ground and the blade lifts up when a rear tractor tire hits a bump and lifts the rear implement up letting the dirt make a hump. My rotary mower doesn't have the flexing link on top so I let the top link float and the mower rides on the back wheel. The float valve will operate like any other valve until pushed into the float position.
