My battery is slowly wearing out. I looked under the hood and I see that the air cleaner has to be removed and the breaker bracket needs to be bent out of the way and then it might just have enough clearance past the rear of the headlight to be able to remove the battery by pulling it straight up, maybe.

Or is there an easier way?
Thanks!

txdon,

It might not be the same, but on my L3130 the headlight/grill comes out with two wing nuts to gain access to the battery. Maybe yours is the same.

Here is a picture to show what I was talking about in the previous thread.

I saw that wing nut! I'll check that out thanks.

Does anyone have a preference on a good maintenance free tractor battery? The Dealer did not have any OME batteries.

I forgot to mention, but the bottom of the headlight/grill assembly has pins that are in rubber grommets. Tilting the assembly forward and rocking a bit helps get it out depending on how tight yours is. Also do not forget to disconnect the headlight wiring harness if there is not enough slack in the wiring.

As stated, the headlight assembly easily comes out by unplugging and the wing nut. I usually but Die Hard or Interstate batteries, but have not replaced the one in my L5030, so I don't know the model numbers. Good luck.

Buy one from Costco. Change it out before the warranty ends and you'll have a lifetime supply of batteries for the price of the first one.

Just measure the L x W x H and where the terminals are and you are good to go.

Because of location some people are getting AGM or spairal wound Optimal batteries so any leakage will not harm the radiator.

When you buy a battery you are buying lead...
There are a lot of ways to make one lead acid battery "sound" better than the next...

Get the heaviest battery (that fits the space you have available) for the $ you can find. Should last many years and you will save $$ KennyV

It is not the easiest battery to get to and as David pointed out it is next to the radiator so the battery must be a sealed, maintenance-free battery as the one from the factory. One dealer said the original batteries were made in Japan and they do not cary them. Why not? That was a good battery lasting an incredible 8 years in this heat.

I'd have to say its one of the easiest tractor batteries to change, just pop the headlight out and you're gold. I'm in there a lot to boost other vehicles.

Mines still going strong through all these canadian winters even though I don't have a block heater.

Thanks guys, the new Odyssey battery is in and the tractor is so happy. Two wing nuts and one electrical connection unplug, and the entire front lifted off. I didn't even have to take off the air filter.

For a treat I changed the oil, but when I went to replace the filter, the Kubota dealership had given me the wrong filter (first time I didn't double check it). Arrrrrrgggggg! So tomorrow a 120 mile Round trip to exchange filters. I already bent up the old oil filter when I took it off. Arrrrrrrgggggg!

A Deka battery is also a good choice, most of the Kubota stuff made in the US has Deka for the stock battery. Have also seen alot of other manufacturers of lawn and garden equipment use them as they sit along time before use and get knocked around during transport.

David_Kb7uns,

Deka private labels for many brands, but sometimes not for all the battery sizes within a brand. I've been in their plant a couple of times and it was surprising just how many different labels they stick on their battery. They also make high quality battery and jumper cables under a variety of names.

They make a very good product.
