I am close to purchasing a L5030 and have a couple of quick questions that maybe someone can help with. Has anyone run a Woods 720 (or other medium duty 6' approx. 1100 lbs) mower without a FEL attached ? I'd like to know if front weights will be sufficient or if it would only work with a FEL in place.

Also, I see that the FEL can be attached / detached fairly easily. How about a front mount Kubota 72" snow blower ? Would it be reasonably easy to switch between the two or does anything about mounting one or the other make it a major hassle to switch ?

Thanks !

I have a 4610, which is one size smaller and one generation older than a 5030. My tractor will handle a 6ft. med duty cutter and other implements weighing up to 800 lbs. (that's as heavy as I've got) with no hint of being back-heavy when the loader is off. The FEL frame subassembly adds several hundred pounds ahead of the rear axle. The 5030 should have no problem with that cutter.

My L4330 is the smallest member of that series and it is fine with a Woods 6 ft. medium bush hog type cutter, no front weights, FEL frame only, with loader removed. No hint of front end lightness.

Another point is that the mower's tail wheel carries some of the weight when mowing - so there's plenty of downforce left at the front wheels for steering and traction. I think mowing goes better with the FEL off anyway. The tractor is more maneuverable and there's less machinery sticking out front to worry about when mowing in close to obstacles, etc.
