I went with a friend this morning to the Kubota dealer where he bought his L5030 at this past spring. Its got 76 hrs on it and he figured it was time to do his "50 hr service"..???......which HIS DEALER told him that many skip that and do it at 100 hrs..

He bought all the filter he needed and a single container ( 2 1/2 gal ) of SUDT fluid. ( His L5030 holds 12 gal..??) He said his dealer told him to change the 2 hyd filters...and then JUST refill his HST to the full mark...meaning to JUST replenish the amount lost by changing filters. ( In essence to NOT drain ALL the HYD fluid out and refill with fresh SUDT)..?????

Kinda strange what some of these dealers can come up with.

There are many opinions on this. The dealer's point is that the filter should have trapped any junk and the rest of the fluid is fine so just change the filter and top her off. The manual says to change the fluid too. If you want to be safe and spend a little more $$ change out the fluid too. If you want to save some $$ then warm her up, change the filters and then top her off.

If it was me...then I would change all the fluid too. I think it boils down to personal preference. You'll hear lots of arguments both ways but the bottom line is that it's just opinion. Manual says one thing, dealer says another. You make the call.

Theres a poster here that changes the hydraulic filter every 100 hrs which is twice as often as recommended and lets the fluid go double the recommended hrs before changing and has alittle over 1000 hrs on his HST tractor.

I generally follow the recommended scheduled maintenance guidelines myself but it goes to you that theres always two sides to a coin :D

I find it hard to believe that the hydraulic oil is contaminated enough at 50 hours to require it being changed. I consider it a huge waste of a resource that has and will be much more precious. I think Kubota may in the end rethink their 50 hour requirements at least in the future. I have done my fluid changes at the 50 hour mark on both the L48 and L3830 I owned feeling a bit like a sucker. If the hydraulic fluid has that much contamination in it from a brand new transmission, clutch, and hydraulic system, something during machining and assembly is going on that needs to be changed. My .02 cents:rolleyes:
