Thank you all for the advice. This helps a lot. I was thinking the bigger I get the happier I will be in the long run. I also need to dig a low water crossing across a creek. Is it possible to backhoe with a cab or should I just hire it done. Got a quote last night from an excavator who would do it for $1500 plus permits. The problem is the only way in is over my 1 yr old blacktop and I'm afraid the 40 ton excavator will really tear it up.

Not if the operator/contractor has road pads on the tracks and lays down the proper mats. $1500.00 is a lot cheaper than a 3 point/subframe backhoe and yes, Bradco makes a backhoe that will fit cab models of Kubota. The OEM don't.

I run over blacktop all the time wiht my 44,000 # excavator. If I go straight and don't turn , no problem. If you're worried, lay down a few sheets of plywood or some old tires for it to drive on.
