I am looking at an L5030 with an LA853 loader, lQuick Coupler, and 72" bucket with loaded ag tires. Very similiar, I think to what DieselJay asked about last week, but without so many bells and whistles.

I thought about getting a couple of rear remotes, but my dealer says that it doesn't cost any more to add them later, so I might as well wait until I see if I ever get an implement that needs them.

Anyway, the price I'm being quoted is $26,000.00. Is that in the right ballpark? You input will be greatly appreciated. I wish I was pulling the trigger on this deal tonight so I could play tomorrow but I don't think I'm going to be able to get it done. I'm still waiting for some epiphany to tell me this is the right machine for me.

Sounds about right. Thats a nice tractor. I have a new L3130 with a L723 loader and love it. You will enjoy that one for sure.

HobbleCreek - I bought a similarly equippped 5030 in April '04 and got quotes from 4 dealers. I hate it when my customers try to talk me down, so I don't do it to other businessmen. I just asked them to give me their best price on a 5030 with 853 loader, HD bucket w/cutting edge, Kubota Quick-attach, R4 tires (I ended up going with turfs for the same price), and a block heater. My local dealer was $28,000, 2 others were in the mid 27K range, and Salem Farm Supply in Salem, NY came in at $24,950. I gave my local dealer the bad news in person, then took a road trip. Sounds like you're getting a fair deal though. If my local dealer had been at $26,000, i would have given him the extra $1,050. $3,050 was another story.

Oops, just noticed you didn't mention what tranny you were quoted on, mine is hydro. Unless you're going to be plowing fields all day, i have 3 suggestions: 1) get hydro 2) get hydro and 3) get hydro. I LOVE the way it puts all that power to the ground so effortlessly, and I bet you're going to LOVE your 5030, whatever tranny you get. Good luck, and feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I have 530 hours on mine now so I'm getting to know her pretty well.

I purchased an L3130 with LA723 loader last year and got 3 remotes at the time of purchase. Being done at one time I got 3 remotes for little more than than the price of 2.

Some thoughts; if you buy them with the tractor, they can be installed during tractor assembly and make ready. THe dealer has motivation to hurry it along to get paid, having it done later might mean a week or more down time when it hurts more. To install mine they had the right wheel off along with the right fender. There is not a lot of hand room under there to work.

Having them ready facilitates adding what ever implement you might need in a hurry. Particularly adding top and tilt. 2-3 remotes should run you $1000-1300. Figured in the financing it is not much.

When you said Quick Coupler did you mean a skid steer type adapter for the loader. This is a most useful addition that I know. I have a bucket, pallet forks, a grubbin bucket and a tree shear that I can put on the front in just a few minutes, 5-10.

These two things make for a very versatile tractor at reasonable initial cost.

Thanks for your comments. I am getting quoted on the HST, and that is one of the main things that draws me to the Kubota. I do have some discing to do, and that worries me a bit about the HST, but I read lots of comments about the strength of the Kubota hydro (including your recent post Tree Guy -- I'd love it if that claim of never failing could be show to be true!). I may also do some haying with the tractor.

One of the things that bothers me about the competitive JD, which I still have under consideration, is that on Deere's website they steer you away from their hydros if you respond that the tractor will be used for hay production. My dealer says they're just being overly cautious, but still, it bothers me.

The one I am looking at is already assembled on the dealer's lot, without remotes. It therefore wouldn't make any difference to me whether the down time was right now or later. I am very close to making this decision, and almost wish I were picking up in the morning to go clear some sagebrush. This is getting exciting.

Thanks for your help guys.

Grant,
One of the members on the forum, “5030”, uses his Kubota for professional hay work and has the HST tranny. He isn’t as active lately but a search for his name should bring up some information on how it has performed.

I am not a hay guy but thought that most balers would require at least one or two remotes.

Mark,

I think it's the swather, not the baler that requires the remotes, although I could be wrong about that. You're correct about the main point, though, which is that I'll need the remotes to do any hay work.

The good news about "5030" is that he's used his for hay work and it evidently has stood up to the work. I'll do the search and see what I can turn up. Thanks for the tip.

1 month ago, $26350 in Oklahoma for what you are looking at EXCEPT with 3 remotes and with R4 tires NOT loaded.

Being the old farm boy that I am with LOTS of haying experience, I can see no reason why the Hydro would be anything but beneficial. Unless your fields are flat and level there will always be places where the hay is thicker (low spots that are wetter) or thinner (high spots that are dryer). Changing ground speed without clutching and shifting to keep the baler at full capacity will be very easy with the Hydro. For heavy tillage work the gear trans would be best but, for anything else, especially PTO and loader work, I would go with the Hydro.

Scott,

It sounds like you got a pretty good deal, maybe a little better than I'm going to be able swing from my dealer. He says that he charges his cost plus 3%. If that's true, I think it's fair. It seems to me that it's pretty close to what you paid, but maybe a little more. I think R4 tires and the 3 remotes would add more to the price than would filling the tires. Thanks for your post.

Toolguy,

Thanks for your input, too. I think the consensus is that the Hydro is best. I'll stop worrying about it. I'm not going to be doing a whole lot of either haying or tillage work, so I should be fine.
