I have had a L5030 for about three weeks now. Today I tryed to change the three point lift drop rate. I could not rotate the knob at the front of the seat by hand. I was able to turn it maybe 10 degrees with vise grips. I am afraid to force it any more. Tractor has 298 hours and is 11 years old. Lift works great. Any ideas on getting the drop rate knob freed up.

I would start with PB BLASTER or KROIL, blown in with compressed air. Quite likely you have dust jamming the knob.

Was the tractor stored inside or outside by the previous owner?

I think turning it back and forth, very little bit at a time will eventually free it. I'd be very cautious about too much force and twisting the shaft off. It's likely froze internally. When I bought my Ford the hydraulic speed knob was that way. Took a lot of patience and many, many times back and forth. Now it works great. Good luck.

My drop rate knob was frozen on my L3400 Kubota when I got it. Don't put the vise grips back on it. Put some Kroil or your favorite "knock it loose" solvent on the shaft. Turn it by hand, back and forth just a little at a time. If it moves at all you are "gaining ground". Lube it and let it set, and do it some more. Kroil is the best stuff you can buy in a can for this.

If you don't have a source for Kroil try mixing acetone and trans fluid half and half. Good stuff Maynard.

Good tip Murph.

But keep in mind that the acetone mixed with the ATf might be hard on your paint, so watch for drips.

Kroil is not cheap by any means. But a little goes a long way. I am still on my original can bought many years ago. But I have heard the acetone/ATF mix works as well or better. But I have never had anything that Kroil wouldn't knock loose.

Amazon.com: Kano Kroil Penetrating Oil, 8 oz. liquid (KROIL): Automotive

I'm still on the Gallon jug I bought 20 years ago. Good stuff but spendy.

Understanding everyone's needs are different. I don't get never changing the drop speed?? I use a large variety of 3pt equipment and change the drop speed frequently. Even on the little JD.
