Buy a volt meter, a cheap one will do, and measure the battery voltage when the engine is running.
Post the results and then one of us can start to dig into this but more detail is needed to do anything for you.

Yes Jay, alternator is turning. Battery is almost new and load tests AOK. All fuses are good and no apparent wire damage. Frustrated and confused. Thanks for any help. Lakeboy13.

Dave M7040 - Battery voltage with engine running is 12.60 Vdc. However, AC Voltage measures 23Vac. Does this indicate blown rectifier diodes? Would this cause charge indicator lamp to come on? BTW, I have checked alternator drive belt. Tension is correct and there is no slippage. Thanks for your assistance. Lakeboy13.

the 1700 ford tractor was built in japan your tractor will have a externally regulated alternator if all your getting is 12.60 that is low but might be acceptable the one thing you did comment about is does the battery go dead after running for an extended period or does the battery go dead after setting not running after a few days if the latter happens possibly bad diodes. next question on the rear of alternator does it have a black plastic cover they were only 2 versions with back cover and without repost this info will let you know next move

Yes the warning light comes on when the diodes are blown as voltage output is too low.
I think your AC voltage is low as I would have expected it closer to 30 volts so you may have alternator problems. However, the regulator is likely the cheapest to replace to start with.
I was surprised to see an alternator on e-bay for about $70 which is a low price.

The regulator is also on ebay

In the end you should be seeing just over 14 volts across the battery when the engine is running quickly.

If there is an independent starter, generator, alternator place near you, I would take both the regulator and alternator to them to test as a way to get a quick diagnosis.
