Good to hear from you David.
I can't wait to see those pics you're talking about.
I'm sure everything turned out just beautiful, just as you wanted. I also hope you get your internet connection worked out. I've also been guilty of not keeping my Log Home thread, but I've been busy as heck. Loretta has one of those air cards for our computers up there. Then we bring it down with us too, since our DSL has been disconnected down here. The air card works quite a bit better down here than up at the ranch.
Anyway, Merry Christmas and post those pics...

Hey David. Merry Christmas! I've missed the updates from you and Michael so it's good to hear from you all again. I'm guilty of not posting much as well. We did have some landscaping done and a concrete drive poured in late summer. Both turned out better than planned! Sorry I can't offer any solution to the wireless card/ internet problems. We are fortunate to have cable.

WOW, Its been 7 months since I posted:(.

The big problem has been internet...we had none! We tried to get high speed thru the phone company, it stops 1 mile on each side of me with no plans to extend it at this time, called Hughsnet (sp) no access, tried the little thing you plug into the side of the computer with our cell service..not enough bars to get a signal, tried Direct TV and Bluebird, I think that was the name anyway, and they only have a certain amount of connections they are allowed and their allotment is up, we will have to be put on a waiting list. Called the cable company, they will give me 200' of cable for free, but charge $10.00 a foot after that, I'm about 600' off the road so I'll have to pay $4000.00 to get the cable. I plan to call them back and see if I can buy and bury the cable myself. So we are still on very slow dial-up at home!!

I have access at work but we put a new system in and for a long time could only access company websites...but as of this week the whole net is now available!

As far as progress on the house, have shelves built for garage and basement, have the wood furnace hooked into the ducts and it works great!!

Because of the new asphalt drive we had to wait until late fall to get the sidewalks poured. Needed the asphalt to setup good and get a few cool mornings before we have 10 yards on concreat delivered. I was going to brick the front sidewalk but after getting cost it was cheaper for me to hire it poured...that is until my wife decided she wanted the front walk stamped:(.
But it does look great...I'll get some pics over Christmas and post.

We could not do much landscaping due to the sidewalk not being in and we also had a bad drought so nothing would have lived anyway. We did get some landscaping done but the most will be done this winter and spring.

I got the well house started and should have it complete over Christmas and New Years...I do have some pics of the process and will post.

Great to be back...even if access is SLOW!

David

David, don't give up on cable. (Yet) I had the same problem you did about five years ago.. I did have the advantage that my neighbor worked for the cable company. One of the reasons they want to charge so much is they will have to use larger than normal cable to run up to your house because of the distance. Basically it's the same size they run on poles. What I found out is they have lengths that they cant use that are up a 1/2 mile long. Just waste to them. My neighbor came out on a thursday took some measurements and the following Monday I came home to cable internet solution. I have directv and would never give that up for cable.
If you can find someone who does the installs you might be able to get a better price..

If the sun ever comes out again I'll get some better pictures.

But I did find a couple we took, one sowing a little rye grass and a couple of the front sidewalk right after it was poured.

Thanks Michael.

That was the wife's decision on the stamping. I was going simple and when the guy told me the cost to stamp and color, $800.00, she saw me hesitate and knew I was going to say no, she jumped in and said "that will be fine"...well I like it and glad she did:D.

Wow! That walk is incredible. I think you got a bargain for that price. I hope I can find someone like that when we do our place.

The $800.00 was just for the stamping. The total cost for ten yards of concrete, front walk, back walk, and filling block on two retaining walls was $2500.00. Still not a bad price considering to brick the front walk alone was $1200.00 for material not including labor...the labor of which was mine, and I am expensive!:D

This may have already been addressed, didn't read through all the posts, but I have Hughes. It is my understanding that as long as you have a clear view of the southern sky (no trees or other obstructions) you can get Hughes. It is expensive, semi reliable, and generally a pain, but if it's all you have, then it's better than dial up. I've been on it 2 years now, with the professional plan, and bought a Verizon Wireless modem for backup and use on the road. Between the two, I can at least surf most of the time.
