Land Plane,...Mfg?

Wanting buy a land plane and have been searching about it here. What companies make these? I have found a few names. Want to see who has the heaviest at a fair price. Also what width suggested for a 53hp 2WD.

I have a Grade Master. It does a good job. But if I were to buy again I'd get one with a row of ripper teeth like a box blade. Don't think I'd ever need the teeth but they look cool.

I have a "Road Boss" It's 7 feet wide, perfect for a roadway. But I pull it with a 50 Hp tractor, needs to be in 4wd for traction. If you get a similar sized LP, I think you'll need loaded tires.

Do a google search using something like landplane: tractorbynet.com, and you'll likely get a bunch of threads of TBN discussions of landplanes including the many available vendors.

Doing the same search w/o the TBN was also helpful....

The consensus on width always seems to be at, or slightly wider than the outside width of your tires, as smaller leaves unexcavated areas with wheel marks, and too much larger risks bogging down your tractor.

Pulled 6' unit with 2WD JD 5105. With unit level and both blades cutting it would spin loaded 14.9-28 rear tires. Seemed to spin less behind Ford 4000 and JD 5303 4WD.

Several people have built their own, so you might consider that. I have a post somewhere with about 80 pictures in the build and several other people have documented their builds. It isn't rocket science, just a little fabrication. Mine is heavy for a 70 hp 2wd tractor, but it handles it.

That looks pretty impressive! Can you give us some more information on it? Did you build/buy it? How long is it? What do you pull it with?

It was purchased on eBay (obviously local pick up only). I was the only bidder at $50. Getting it loaded and transporting it was a chore.

There are no labels or places where a metal tab might have been mounted. Thus, the manufacturer is unknown.

Width is 8' and the length is about 11'.

It is pulled by a 3PH drawbar on a Kubota M7040. Amount of bite is regulated by the 3PH. It does a very nice job of flattening a pasture after plowing or discing...looks like a parking lot.

Holy Smokes! That was the deal of the decade! Looks like a really great tool for smoothing and leveling fields.

I have read alot of the builds and would like too. My biggest problem is time to do it with all the other projects I have going on. For me, no more than these cost new, its better to buy new and stay on my other projects and save money on those.

My issue with building one is actually finding the steel. There are a few steel yards around my area but they only sell in large batches. They don't want to waste their time selling 1,000lbs worth of steel. I actually have no idea how much it would cost to build one of these nowadays??

This is one of those things I really want to build someday. I need to finish my backhoe thumb project and my box blade guage wheel project first though!

I've been bookmarking all these threads to go back and reread when the time comes to build. Where are some good places to buy steel from? Can you get this kind of thing from a scrap yard or is that mostly junk stuff?

I have the Industrial version of the Cammond Industries 7 footer that is Cat I/II capable. Weighs 935 lbs. Built real tough.

Works great but it can load up and I always use in 4WD especially since I have a hill that I have to grade up as well as down to keep the crown.
