HI ,
I have a Landpride FDR1572 3point 6ft.mower deck,,the exact replacement 3 blades are with me but don't seem to know the direction to loosen the old blades,,since they are stuck from only sharpening the blades when they were on..I have propane heated used penetrating oil ,impact wrench, and the wood blocks between the blades to stop spindle from turning,,this would help to know since i went thru a 3/8" braker bar now I'm on a 1'2" and don't want to break the bolts,,,what is the best method,,do i need blocks to stop them also,,
Regards,
Tony

Hi !

I have the FDR2584 7' mower and the bolts are conventional standard threaded (lefty-loosy) parts. I have resorted to a 6' pipe on my 1/2" breaker bar to get them to move. Make sure you use a 6 pt socket to keep from rounding off the heads. I've used never-seize in the past with no real improvement. On my JD 72" mower, the bolts have a higher/thicker head which makes for a better socket contact. I'm surprised heat didn't help but would worry that the grease seal in the spindle bearings will go out early.

I recommend a constant pull force method rather than an impact, but you need to use whatever it takes. I also recomment new bolts on hand if the heads are smoothed from grass cutting or wrenching...

I wonder if those bolts are a left hand thread (in other words, you're tightening rather then loosening). My guess (and this is just a guess) is the bolts tighten in the same direction the blades normally rotate (this to prevent loosening during mowing).
An impact wrench with adequate operating pressure and volume should have done the trick with no problem. I just did it using a 90 psi and 30 CFM air compressor (tank is 60 cubic feet, IIRC).
So, if your air compressor is up to the requirements, try reversing the impact wrench.

BTW, have you read your manual about blade removal? It may require blocking those blades.

I've had a 5 6 and now a 7 foot Land Pride RFM. All of them have been standard Righty Tighty Lefty Loosey. I just use and impact on mine and have never had to block the blades. I just put the impact on and spin them off. Get a bigger impact.

They'll be standard threads.

Is there a pair of flats on the shaft just above the blade? There are on mine. I put a big ole open end wrench (can't remember size....it's like 1 9/16" or something) on that. The wrench at that size is longer than the blade, so I can wedge the wrench against something hard.

Then---and this can be extremely hard to do---I just use my 3/4" socket wrench to loosen the blades. It typically involves me lying on the ground and using both feet to turn the socket wrench. Then, I usually wise up and grab a cheater bar.

Good luck!

Just make sure that mower is supported by 3 or 4 (4 is better) jackstands!!
