Whats a good size? I see TSC has the KK XB series and its a 5ft model...this seems a little on the small side I was thinking of a 6ft. However I don't want to get something that is to much for the tractor.

I would say 5 feet is on the max size that a tractor that tiny can handle. A landscape rake once it pick up loam or other material can easily be carrying a thousand pounds of material.

IMO, your tractor should have no problem with a 72 inch rake. I use a 72 inch rake on mine, and the tractor does not work very hard.

I have a 72" rake that I bought when I had my subcompact. It was used on my machine, and a buddy's BX22. It's workable, but is a little on the large side if you are going to use it a lot, and try to move a lot of material. He found the same thing. I bought the 72", anticipating a larger machine in the future, and not wanting to have to purchase another rake when I moved up.

If you don't have plans to move up in machine size, I'd recommend the 60" rake for the BX.

I ended up with a 5 footer for my B3030..thanks to good old TSC....*S* ( That pack of idiots...lol)

I HAD a 5 ft KK rake ordered ( would take up to 10 working days...yeah! rIGHT!!) Waited nearly 5 weeks...NADA...nothing. I wanted also the dolly wheel kit but they wanted $200 for the wheels alone...

FINALLY they called and said it was in..and I had already bought wheels and such to build my own dolly wheels...so I went to get it. They had another brand there...the small model ( BX.??) in a 5 foot width..WITH dolly wheels...for more than $100 LESS than the KK WITHOUT dolly wheels...??? I took the one with the wheels...:D

I guess I better call TSC to see what they have in stock...there are three all an hour or more away....I don't want to have to drive to all three to get what I want....

I had a BX2200 and 6' rake. It would stop my tractor on uneven ground and if it picked up to much stuff. I believe you would be better off with the 5' unless your just picking up leaves or on very level ground. I traded BX to a B7800 and kept rake and the B never hesitates or stumbles with it doing the same jobs.

Called the nearest TSC...they had both the XB Landscape Rake and box Blade...they could only hold it for 24 hours so I just went ahead and paid for both over the phone...picking them up Saturday...

Can't wait to try the box blade on the driveway!!

Well I go them both yesterday and used them both yesterday....I got a soar neck feom allthe looking back I did yesterday lol

I think they will work out perfect for me. They do seem the right size for the BX tractors...

Glad you were able to get them not too far away, and that they are working out well for you! We'll call you rubberneck. How about a pic with them mounted sometime?

Glad they are both working for you.

For anyone else who may read this thread in the future, looking for the same info., N. H. Northern Tool and Supply is also a source for the landscape rake. I think they carry the Agri-Fab brand.

The condition of the soil being raked is also a factor to consider when considering rake size. Soil with a lot of root material would be hard to rake unless it is already well plowed and/or tilled. The more busted up it is beforehand, the better. Also, rocks cemented into hardpan will not come out unless the hardpan is ripped ahead of time.

Another factor is setting them up right...makeing sure the angle is right by adjusting the uppper link and the side turnbuckle the determins how parallel the implement is to the ground...for grading the driveway I tilted the rake so the high side was about an inch off the ground when the other side was touching....after several passes making usre the high side was twords the center of the driveway I creaked a crown and a very smooth driveway.

I still need to play with the box blade some. That will take a bit more practice...

Quick tip for leveling your rake. I'm hard pressed to find a perfectly level spot for my tractor. I mount the rake to the 3PH, get everything almost snugged up, raise the rake about half way up then climb up on the tractor facing the ROPS. Make your adjustments left to right to center the rake to the tractor "centerline". Next go about 10 feet behind the tractor. Eyeball the rake to the bottom of the sheetmetal below the lights. Adjust as needed, when the rake is level with the tractor sheetmetal it's level period. Now tighten everything down. Now if you want to have a "tilt" just eyeball the difference on the sheetmetal and you get the desired result. Quick and easy!
I have the 5 foot BX series also, had mine for 3 or 4 years Amd it's served me well.
One issue you may want to check. See if there are drain holes on the bottom of the beam. Mine expanded outward over the winter, I drilled a couple 1/4 inch weep holes on each end,to let any trapped water drain out.

Attached a new to me LP 72" landscape rake on the back of my BX23 today...So far, disappointed...Have to keep the hydraulic up/down lever in the up position or the rake will settle/dig with it's weight and it barely clears the ground while transporting...Have taken up just about all I can on the top link...This puppy is one awkward to load piece of equipment.

Which series did you get - the LR0572 or the LR1572? I have the LR0560 for my BX23. I looked at the LR15 stuff, but it's maybe a bit too stout for the BX... LP does make nice stuff though.

I purchased a 6' rake from TSC and used it one time and it folded up like a pretzel. Piece of junk! Luckly they took it back. I would recommend that you NOT buy the rake from TSC. Compared to other brands, they are very poorly designed and constructed and even considering the cheap price are just not a quality, long lasting product. I would look at York, Modern, Landpride but not TSC. In short, you get what you pay for. I learned the hard way.

Sounds like you got the rake used? If so, guess it may not be returnable. To make the 72" rake work with your machine without the Position Control, you'll need gauge wheels to keep it from digging in too much. Those gauge wheels make a world of difference on a subcompact. Also, to get more lift height, the Pat's Quick Hitch links will help to gain another 4" of lift height.

Riptide, the one I purchased is the LP LR15...a Lot of iron.

Thanks Bandit...It was used when I bought it...Thinking I may just re sell it and get one a little smaller like a 60"...Deffinitely taking a look Pat's Quick Hitch.
