Rake Landscape Rake

I bought a used Ford 6' landscape rake a week ago for $225. Today I got a chance to use it to clean up the excess trash from clearing new land for food plots. WOW....this is the real deal. Really a fast way to clean up a quantity of small sticks and woody brush remains from brush hogging and clearing. In about an hour and a half I had cleaned up an acre size plot.
I just pulled everything into a pile over some areas that have big rocks. I'll probably just leave the trash there to deteriorate for a while as I cannot plant these areas anyway....maybe burn it when time permits.

Had I known I would like this implement so well....I may have looked for one sooner. This old Ford rake seems to be a good heavy duty unit....its mostly yellow (has two blue 3 point supports...replacements?)...indicating industrial duty.

Sounds like a good deal on the rake, like all implements a rake has it's use and I would not want to be with out mine. I have not quite the touch when trying to spread with it but s l o w l y I am getting better each time I use it.

A landscape rake is one implement you will never put a lot of hours on....because it does the jobs so quickly

I bought a used one 10 years ago. I only use it for an hour or two a year, but it accomplishes so much in that hour!

We have one bought from TSC 5-6 years ago. We use it a couple of times a year to clean up small limbs and sticks from the pasture area. Also used to remove trash from tilled or disked soil. I removed every other tine and that seemed to help to keep from picking up too much loose dirt after disking.

A rake is next on my want list. I have heard both good and bad about the KK brand, so I am keeping an eye out for a better/heavier used brand. I think a 6' for my tracror.

FWIW, mine is a 6' Landpride with the wheels (very useful for grading out gravel or dirt) and a drop down blade (I've only used that a couple of times).

+1... Taking care of ~1.4 miles of gravel road. Down the road in 3rd gear high range and back.. Takes like 15 minutes and the gravel are smooth and where they belong again...

On the subject of wheels.....I had always read that many people preferred to add wheels to their landscape rakes. Now, I dont have alot of experience with a rake.....but based on my use yesterday.....I cannot see a need for any wheels on my rake. This thing just followed my tractor along cleaning up nicely in my sandy soils. I also pulled it on my trails and the rake did a nice job of leveling and uniforming the soil.

I plan to pull it on our gravel road in the next few days....but I got rained out yesterday....which cut my time short. I'm hopeing to use it more for road and trail maintenance....as I have a few miles of trails to care for. So far....its looking good.

I took my rake out for the first time on Sunday. It's a Woods LRC60. The mission was general cleanup, on half an acre that badly needed it. I had one problem: whenever I topped a small rise with my tractor, the rake would lift up off the ground and dump whatever it was carrying.

Would it be a good idea to add a floating link to the top of the 3pt hitch, like the one on my rotary cutter?

Do you have the wheels on the rake? If not, that's where they can be useful.

If you already have the wheels, then maybe you just need finer adjustment of the top link. OTOH, under certain conditions, a chain in place of the top link would be helpful. (Chain is an easy substitute for a floating top link.)
