I had the same problem with my Dell laptop. Dell tech support went into overdrive to figure it out and ended up sending me a new motherboard (not that), another new motherboard with new RAM and processor chip (still not it), a new 'frame' to my display (thought we had it, but no) without finding the problem.
Finally, when the tech was here and it acted up again he tore the entire thing down and found a small, small screw that had come loose from the original motherboard and had managed to get wedged umder the power supply. When the machine was torqued or tilted or hit just right it would short out the power supply. He removed the screw and reassembled everything and I've not had problem one since.
One thing I wanted to mention was to check to see if you can duplicate the problem by hitting it or shanking or torquing it a particular way. I thought it was the little magnetic deal in the display frame gone bad (shows what I know, huh?).
Good luck figuring it out. I hope IBM tech support is even half as good as Dell's. If they are, you'll be all set. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
