My experiences with the L3400 and 60" bucket has left me with the feeling that for general use, they're a good match. I've come close to rolling it a couple times because a front wheel dropped into a low spot with a full bucket of earth. More weight up front might have been the difference between close and "Oh sh**."

If all I moved was manure, sawdust, or light material like that, a 66" would be fine probably. As it stands, I'm not a good enough operator (nor is my wife) to push the envelope any further. I wish I had a 60" SSQA bucket, but I've no wish for a 66"

Sean, I had 10 bags of 80lb cement mix in the 66 and it was fine, but I was not on tilted ground either. When operating on a side tilt with a gravel filled 66, if you moved too fast, it started to not feel so good. I preferred the 60 for any work where the angles were bad, and still do :) Plus the 60 will dig better. So yes the 60 is a good match for the L3400 or that class of machine, But the 66 is OK for most things, just pay more attention:thumbsup: But for a newbie.. I can tell you for sure I would put him or her on the 60 inch to learn with. The 66 is great for mulch:thumbsup: I have both, but the Kioti is a lot heavier machine and can handle its standard 66 much easier.

SSQA is about the best thing you can add to a Tractor w/FEL. It's a great system. I'm sure you would be happy with a 60" bucket and a set of forks.

Interesting thread. I have a L3430 with a heavy duty (round back) 72" bucket. The short bed on my F250 is about 76" and it is always slow going trying to load it without beating it up like I did with my old Dodge. I have thought about getting a narrower bucket but haven't done anything about it yet. I never thought about shecking with my dealer to see what take-offs might be available in his yard. The bucket is a pin on and I have a thumb on it. I wouldn't want to get rid of it. Thanks for the ideas.

I am looking at buying a new L3800 w/LA524 loader. According to my dealer, and what I see on the Kubota site, if you get a QA you can only get a 66 inch bucket.
The way I understand it, the 60 inch is a pin on. I wanted a 60 QA. It looks like I would have to go aftermarket to do that.:(
It is my opinion that a 60 is the correct size for most work with a machine that small. A 66 would however be better for snow removal, but would be about max for dirt work.

If you want a good heavy duty 60" bucket in a skid steer QA, get your dealer to order a TL2142 bucket. It's a 60" round back bucket that is intended for the B26, cost is $836. Should be a good option for a heavy duty bucket on a L3200/3800.

Thank you , I will look into that.
