Larger Saw Purchase

I have the 5 saw plan, 30cc, 50cc, 60cc, 70cc, and 90cc.

Holy schmokes! Nice collection! I always wanted something in the 90cc class but just don't have big enough trees.

It would work better than the 2 saw plan (50cc and 70cc). I have the 5 saw plan, 30cc, 50cc, 60cc, 70cc, and 90cc.

i started with the one saw plan 60cc, then i figured i needed bigger and smaller

i like it you add the two plans together

I started with a 034 Super. I had some big trees I needed to work up. I almost got a MS 460 but I did not know at the time if it would have enough power, so for a little more money I went with the MS 660. A buddy straight gassed his 024 Super and decided to get a new saw so he gave it to me. I got it going with a MS 260 P/C. Then for some reason a friend let me try his MS 170. I liked it so I found a deal on a nice one on craigslist. I know a lot of people think a saw is not a saw unless it is a pro saw but the MS 170 is a nice little saw. I put an adjustable carb on mine and muffler modded it. It is surprising how good it cuts, even with a safety chain:confused2: After looking at Arboristsite I decided I needed a 70cc saw. I really wanted a pre 2000 046. They supposedly had a better cylinder on them and were more powerful than the MS 460. I was open to a any nice 70cc Stihl though. All I could find was junk on craigslist for $400-500. I got tired of looking for a used saw so I got a new MS 441 C M. I still want to get a top handle saw, probably a MS 201T. I'll hold out for a nice used one. I also would like to get a MS 390. I have seen some videos of those that have been ported and they cut nice. I think it would be cool to have a saw like that will out cut a pro saw.

i also have a 201T, the timing has been advance the muffler opened up and the limiter caps on the carb removed, it's a great little saw. i use it for just about anything 8" or less.

Top handles are great small saws, I would not be without one. HOWEVER, they can be very dangerous to the inexperienced user and that is one reason Stihl considers them pro saws. It is easy to use one hand or even with two hands, they are prone to kick back. I have cut professionally so I own one, but for those inexperienced looking for a small saw, consider the MS170 or MS171. They are little workhorses.

I'm with Tom, top handle saws are serious business. They are real easy to use one handed and or above your head, which strictly speaking are both "no-no's". They do make a rear handled 200, and I assume 201. That would be a sweet little saw. Though to pay $600 for one, though.

Seems most tree cutters are pretty disappointed with the 201 vs. The old 200.

stock a 201 is not much fun.

did you see when the 200T was discontinued and the new one were going for $1200+

I would do that to one if I got a 201T. I hear it really wakes them up. I'm am hopping to get a chance to advance the timing on the MS 170 tomorrow. It has the key cast in flywheel so IDK how hard it is going to be.

I think it is like anything else, people don't like change. I saw a video on Youtube of a new 200T vs a 201T. In stock form they were pretty much dead even. The guy removed the spark arrestor from both saw and then compared them. The 200t was bit faster then. I don't know it this is why people don't like the 201T or not.

Have you seen what people want for a MS 290?

Heck yeah they are. I think they are tough to beat for the money.
