If the trailer is that small just let it knife and push it to where you want to go;)

This is the truck I'm working on. A '59 White with a 220 Cummins and 10speed RoadRanger trans. Dad drove this truck when new. Originally had a fifth wheel and pulled semi-trailers. It was made into a wrecker when it was traded in for a new truck in '67. I bought it last year and am in the process of restoring it. Runs good, next step is a coat of red paint.
The trailer is a 28' Fleetneck. I just finished competely sandblasting it and painting it inside and out. Also installed a new floor.
Sweet. Thanks for sharing. That is a nice looking machine. I would like to see a few more pics of the truck, inside and under.... Man that is a pretty truck.

Handles it is one thing, being able to back it up like a goose? I don't think so.

LIKE a gooseneck, no, but for many people who've only backed bumper-pull trailers in the past, backing a gooseneck can be a religious experience.

I saw a neighbor hauling in a load of baled hay yesterday. He had a gooseneck trailer hooked behind his pick-up, with a farm wagon hitched behind that. I'd have given a buck to see him try to back THAT into the barn....;)

But as the wife pointed out, how would we use the gooseneck trailer?
Hidden Hitch is one example.

We have a gooseneck hitch in our short bed K1500 to haul our horses around. I wish I would have gotten a Hidden Hitch, but they weren't available when I needed a hitch installed. I can take out the hitch part from the bed, but it's an H shaped contraption with the ball in the middle that's secured to 2 rails with 4 pins. Not as easy as the Hidden Hitch.

Like a 24' bed which puts the tail of the truck, well behind where a "standard" (read "my currently owned pulled by my F250") gooseneck would reach.

So, the goose would have to be very, very long, or I would have to chop off part of the bed, or I would have to mount the hitch behind the axle, or Maybe a variation of the above mentioned, mount a goosneck hitch back where a reciever would go.

I am familiar with the larger truck's pulling the campers etc. but then I would always have to pull a trailer, and they are "relatively" new, and not common on the well used market I am shopping. These large flats (or a box I would make into a flat) are fairly common and relatively inexpensive. I could see running 100 miles and picking up a load of plants etc, just using the truck. I would also like to use that heavier driveline to pull the bumper pull dump trailer (bet it would be a bear to back a 10' bumper pull behind that truck :D at least for me) and more likely the tractor trailer, which currently is a 20' gooseneck.

Think I may try going with a small single axle dump (assuming I can farm tag and insure it) and a "new" tag along (probably pintle) trailer.

So, short question, has anyone seen a truck like pictured above, with the long flat bed, towing a goose?

I have seen some homemade beds w/ a 2&5/16 ball mounted basically behind the axle on a stiffened crossmember. They look a little goofy going down the road since the gooseneck is acting like a bumper pull. I haven't seen anything like that on a new truck from the factory, these have all been old F700/800 Fords, C30 Chevies and the like. Also I don't know the actual DOT specs on that kind of rig. Of course, we get away with a lot around here w/ a set of Farm Tags. Depending on what you were hauling, you could probably stay w/in the legal limits on the rear axle weight even w/ the above mentioned setup. But once again, I don't know how much attention you would get from a State Trooper.

AlanB, a truck with a long wheelbase like you are looking at will be a real pain with a GN trailer in tow due to the turning radius of truck and especially with a GN in tow, you will be really limited to where you can go with the trailer.
