My JD 5425 currently has R1's (16.9X30 rear and 11.2X24 front) with the rears loaded. By the time I have that weight, the tractor weight, the cab weight, the FEL weight, the nearly 600 pound weight of the JD 84" Worksite Pro bucket and the JD MX8 rotary cutter on the tractor, I'm coming in a bit heavier than I'd like in certain circumstances. If the local (old, retired) scales are anywhere accurate, I'm well over 11,000 pounds. If the ground is a little wet, I leave some pretty good ruts with the R1's. I'd like to go with a second set of wheels and tires that are R4's. I've seen where JD offered an option to go with 16.9X24 rear and 12.5/80X18 fronts in R4's. But, when I loot at those tires, they are way shorter and not really any wider. I know I have to stay with the same prospective size ratio with four wheel drive, but isn't there some taller and considerably wider R4's I could put on? I'd love to find some R4's the same height/diameter as the R1's I have on but that are quite a bit wider. Is there such an option?

Also, part of the area where I'm going to be rough cutting I'm going to be leaving some pretty heavy stalks sticking up. From past history I know that 10 ply R4's are darn tough against punctures from such. I guess I just can't see spending the money for R4's that are considerably shorter and not really any wider. I don't see where that is going to be any real advantage to me. Anybody have any suggestions? There has to be a relatively tall/wide set of R4's I can put on this rig; isn't there?

Question: assuming you could find the R4s you like, how would you remove the wheels with the loaded R1s on them? The wheel/tires/fluid combination must be over 1000lbs each, probably more like 1500lbs+.

I guess I would consider removing the fluid from your existing tires, and carrying the 84" bucket and MX8 only when needed, not all the time. (Of course you may tell me that both are needed all the time - no solution then.)

Yes, I do have the equipment to be able to safely change the wheel/tire sets. You do make a good point though; I've heard several times about people being seriously injured or killed trying to remove large loaded tractor tires. I really need a far larger footprint even in my lightest configuration to be able to do some of the things I want to do with this particular tractor.

I guess I would go to the tire company websites for R4 info.

Any interest in putting duals on the rear? I'm not aware of them from the factory, but I would imagine that there is a way of putting them on. That would probably give you an option with either R1 or R4 tires.
