Gentlemen,
Well, looks like I'll be getting a new toy, um, tool here pretty soon. Got authorization from the house commander to purchase a PT-180. Wanted some final intel from the experts before I put in the order. Here's a list of what I plan on getting:
PT-180
7' light material bucket
4' heavy bucket with teeth
45" 1-blade finisihing mower
48" brush hog
post-hole digger w/4" and 8" auger heads
I talked to Christy yesterday and it looks like the steel prices are going to affect costs very soon. Evidently they are running out of steel, and don't have any mini-hoes or brush hogs in stock right now.
My last minute questions are the following:
1. Does anyone have any experience with the post-hole digger, preferably for the PT-180, but the other models will do. In particular, how well does it perform going through rocky soil? I put in a wood fence by hand around the pool this weekend and hit limestone bedrock about 8" down. I think a strong auger would get through it, as it chipped away gradually with the old-fashioned post hole digger. Needless to say it was a long weekend. I'll be putting in a horse fence (metal) with a perimeter of about 1200'. Putting it in myself will pay for the tractor based on the estimates we've gotten so far.
2. Does anyone know of a manure spreader that will work with the power trac? I searched the archives but couldn't come up with anything. If anyone has the fertilizer spreader, do you think it could be modified to spread manure?
3. Would the 4' bucket with teeth or the pallet forks be better for uprooting small trees and cactus, and general brush clearing? I'm leaning towards the bucket for more versatility, but thought some of you out there might be able to recommend one versus the other. Or, if you think I should get both, just say so and I'll try to convince the wife to spring for another $200.
Thanks in advance to all who respond. Thank you also for those who answered my earlier post. I wouldn't have even considered or known about a power trac if it hadn't been for all of you on this forum. Looking forward to joining this elite group soon. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
