So, has all the hype on here the last few months about heated seats and remote start not working without paying for subscription really only applied to not working on the APP from a cell phone? And those things still work with the key fob and internal buttons? (Like they have for the past 20 years?)

I use the follow feature at times. Yes, it will slow all the way down. The gap is adjustable, maybe 3-4 distances. It will only speed up to the speed you set.

Example. Speed limit is 70. I set my cruise at 75. Eventually, I get within range of a slower car. My car slows down and maintains the gap I set. The guy in front of me takes off like a BOOH. My car speeds up until it reaches 75 and resumes my set speed.

If you are not paying attention, you will often slow down and not realize it..going miles slower than your usual. Once you change lanes, it will go back up until it 'sees' a new obstacle. It is useful in light to medium long distance highway travel. It leaves too much gap for heavy traffic, even at the closest setting. Like with any cruise setting, if you step on the accelerator, it will do as you ask...but if you take your foot off, it will brake to resume the 'gap'.

OK that makes sense, thanks for the reply.

Another oddly useful time is on busy 2-way rural highways or in construction zones. You can only go as fast as traffic anyway, and the gap is less of a problem because there is not someone else trying to exploit it. When you approach a town, you slow down with traffic as the speed limit lowers. Extra handy when you cannot see (or miss) the reduced speed signs.

On my GM vehicles anyway, all these functions work with the fob or dash switches but not with the app since I don't pay a subscription.

The lack of a subscription does not affect the operation of any "on vehicle" functions.

So folks are getting worked up over nothing?

That is what it sounds like to me too. The only issue is the manufactures are charging for the capability and trial period when you are buying the car. It will just be a decision a buyer will make when they are picking a vehicle.

Then I think a bunch of us misunderstood what the OP was saying. I also thought they were saying the features were only available via subscription. This makes more sense that you pay for an app that allows remote access to features.

Mine does as T o r v y said (Wonder why I spaced the alpha letters of his user name? Well after trying to post it correctly five time and it being changed five time on this iPad I fixed it so it could not be changed)

Now on to the Adaptive Cruise Control. Be careful when using and not be testing it on a exit ramp like I did. I was on the interstate with the cruise set to 70 MPH and followed a car off the Interstate and down the exit. My vehicle slowed down behind the car and when it stopped at the traffic light my vehicle stopped. I am setting there thinking when the light changes and that car moves this thing is going to try to get back to seventy miles per hour. I hastily placed my foot on the brake pedal.

Heated - cooled seats, Adaptive Cruise control, tilting mirrors when backing up Etc are permanent installed options paid for at purchase. There is no rental fees. If you want On Star that is a satellite telephone with an assigned telephone number and you pay monthly. I know of no one except the Federal Government paying for a Free Cell Phone under the Free Phone Act.

An actually the Federal Government is not paying for free cell phone service. If those with a cell phone and paying a monthly bill look at the bill they will find we are paying a fee to provide the cell service to the free phone people.

If a person wants a commercial free radio in the car, they have to active a service and pay a monthly fee to Sirius Xm.

Navigation comes with a provided US map. New roads are opened each day. If you want a current map to include the new roads you will have to purchase a annual map upgrade and install it. Or if you don’t want to, you don’t have to. The choice is yours.

Now if you want the ability to be able to start, turn off or unlock your vehicle setting in DC from Germany, you will have to pay for that also.

That makes more sense, having to pay for it I mean, not the ability to do it from that great a distance, can't see why you'd ever want to.
