Hi All,

Im building a land leveller for a neighbour and just thought I'd share a few pictures. It consists of 4 4" angle irons being dragged behind the tractor after the field has been ploughed. I have 2 days work in this so far and hope to have it painted and delivered by next week. Any suggestions/improvements are welcome.. The round bar is temporary and will be replaced by 1 1/2" box running either side of the top link post.

Regards,
Ron

I'm not sure on your application but the ones I have seen and made had angle irons on opposing angles to keep the dirt from rolling off the edges.
Kind of like a snowmobile groomer.
Nice welds btw.

like this maybe?

That has the appearance of a very strong implement! How many horsepower is the tractor that will be pulling this?

The tractor pulling this is 100 horsepower. The guy its for is renowned for breaking iron in a bog so we had to use the old mantra - if in doubt make it stout... Hopefully it will get a test soon. This is the design thats most commonly used here in Ireland. Its for levelling grazing land prior to seeding. The leveller the field the more comfort there is in spreading fertilizer and topping the grass. Thats an interesting design davedj1, I must look into that to see if its a better design or not

I don't doubt but that tractor will just play with that implement!:laughing: I plan to build a road drag and have described it on a thread currently running on this forum. If I find that it does not work to my satisfaction I just might explore building something similar to your design.

The only concern I would have is with the gusset attachment of the angle iron blades to the frame. It seems that the angle iron could have been welded flat to the frame with the gussets possibly added to the back which would have increased the amount of attachment weld to the frame making it stronger.

Rgillard, Your design is the same as I have seen in Northumberland. I presently use some old heavy pipes that are just dragged, but I do like the look of the Tebben design and might do some modifications next winter because I often get a build up of soil that then overflows to leave a small heap - not good when spreading fertiliser at a decent speed.

If you were to take two tires still mounted to their rims and drag them behind the leveler using chain or cable to tether them just off the rear corners, would that not spread the overflow sufficiently. If more weight was needed, a cinder-block or two might suffice.

Looks like it will work great, I have used the same design on the farm and you will not believe how much work this will do.
And I would easily pull that with 40 horsepower, its amazing how easy it can be worked.
You WILL need to fab up a box on it to add weight as it will work much faster with weight attached...
nice work:thumbsup:

Here is some of the final welded assembly and the finished painted product..There was a lot of welding in it.

I am going to try and build a skid steer to 3 point attachment adapter so I can borrow this back and use it for levelling jobs.

We build them from IPE160 at least., with two longitudinal IPE160's welded over the full beam height, to prevent twisting. It starts twisting on the lower end of a broken fencepost. ;)
If available, train rails are most popular around here: wear resistant and heavy, so a lot of torsion resistance. Therefor they dont need extra support, giving the dirt a free path to roll over the full width of the implement to fill ruts.
