Lawn Sweeper

I have this unit, and I pull it around with an old garden tractor occasionally when I have a lot of extra clippings or the wife wants them for the garden after mowing 5 acres with the ZTR (or tractor). It's held up OK for whatever I paid on sale. The poles that hold the canvas bag to its shape get bent fairly easily (the way I use it) when I'm backing up to dump them somewhere and I run into something because I'm naturally trying to drop off the clippings by an edge of somewhere.

Brinley if they are still in business make an Excellent lawn sweeper. 3 rows of brushes.

I also have the Ohio Steel one, seems ok.
Only used it a few times last fall to collect from main lawns where I could not blow the leaves into the forest.
Fills quick, dumps easy, will see how the catcher holds up, that and the gear seem to be the weak points from reviews.

I had an Agri-Fab sweeper which worked fine if only picking up grass clippings. If used with leaves it filled too quickly. I have a 3 acre lawn with many deciduous trees so lots of leaves. Also my grass is not great so clippings weren’t a big deal.

I gave the sweeper away as it didn’t suit my needs very well.

I bought a Brinley lawn vacuum with attaches to my side discharge mower deck. I love it and it does a great job. Doesn’t fill so quickly as the impeller really grinds up the leaves and has a larger capacity.

Grass clippings only, sweeper is fine.
With leaves a sweeper is too light duty unless your lawn is very small with few trees. Also the sweeper doesn’t seem to pickup pine needles very well.

I have 2 Brinleys. I pulled them out of the trash. Went to use the first one and found that the sweepers would not engage. Took it apart and found what was wrong. I called Brinley to order parts. The woman asked where I bought it . I said "Well , I pulled it out of the trash but I really want to put this sweeper back in service". She covered everything I needed under warranty. A few years later I found another one on the side of the road. Replaced a bent tow bar. I use them to get the leaves in the fall and occasionally pick up some grass. They fill quick and do well. The price was right.

I've got the AgriFab Chipper Vac for the last 5 years. MEH. Not overly impressed since it's finicky. The hose gets plugged whenever you have heavy mower output unless completely dry (dead leaves), then requires some disassembly to clear. the chipper is only ok (underpowered & bogs down) and anything except straight branches can jam, and the quality of the parts/assembly is iffy (mine came with a mis-wired safety switch on the cover -- would only start when the cover was off, so I eliminated the switch rather than send the whole thing back). It works only OK as far as I'm concerned, & I wouldn't buy again, though I will keep it going as long as possible now that I own it.

As a kid, I rigged up a manual push (rotary brush type) sweeper to tow behind a garden tractor. worked fine for grass clippings, but you have to do a separate pass after mowing is done. Ok for grass, but filled quick & needed lots of dumping ... depends how much mulch you want/need vs time spent.
I have one that I've used for several years. Sweeps up everything, pine cones, twigs, grass clippings, etc. Works fine.
