Had my first readout replaced under warranty at about 100 hours..now 275 hours, it's all blacked out again. Is it even worth my while to replace again? I normally just gauge engine speed by listening to the tractor, she usually whines like crazy if it's not enough...

This is extremely interesting to me. Did the 100 hours from the first change get transfered to the new unit or did it start over. Could someone just buy a new display and get set back to zero? This would huge if you can't trust the hours meter when buying used.

When i was hunting for a BX24 of course I was looking for a low hours machine. I found one through a "used machine" dealer out of central oregon. This guy claimed my tractor was owned by some rich guy in Idaho that used it very little. Hence the low 267 hours. Not experienced in tractor stuff I asked a neighbor to take a look. He said everything looked ok but we both noticed that the orange plastic looked faded and the decals were both faded and peeling. We both figured it had sat out in the sun a lot.

I wondered if the hours meter was correct. Most everything else matched the low hours e.g. pretty much original paint on bucket and FEL. Called the original dealership (based on sticker on tractor) who verifed original service date.

Had mine replaced under warranty at 300 hours. I now have 820 and it is still going strong. I found out if they get ANY moisture in them, they can start to fade out to black. My first one would be black , but if I let the display sit with the sun on it, it became clear again. After I replaced it, I now remove it to wash the tractor and the tractor stays garaged. Don't know if that helps or not.
Is it still under warranty? If it is, I would get anotehr one. I think they are around $350 to buy outright. And yes, they come "0.0" hours. The only way you could get it to your original hours is apply power to it and watch the clock!:confused2:

That is so wrong to "reset" the clock hours like that. If this was a automobile, I'd be slapped with a fine/jail if I did that on a car. Why not on a tractor too? :(

There has to be a way to reburb those hour meters to keep hours on it.

I guess there is no law about tractor hours like vehicles. My hour meter shows 521 and I have it in the maintenance records to add the 300 hours that was on it when I received and installed the new display. If people are dishonest, which many are, they would not put it in their maintenance records and there would be no way to know. Like I was saying, you could apply power to the correct pin on the back and set a timer for 300 hours (in my case).
I was looking for accessories on Ebay for my 2004 Avalanche and came across a dashboard cluster which of course has the tachometer, speedometer etc and the ad said the cluster shows 18000 miles on it. Again, dishonest people would buy that for their car for resale value.

they do go back to 0.0...but because the dealer replaced it for me, he said that he was required by law to write the hours at which it was replaced under the hood in permanent marker ink. but I don't mind that. unfortunately it's outside the warranty period..that's why i'm thinking it's not even worth it. i've let it sit in the sun for many hours...didn't change...do you think if I unplug it and let it sit in the garage for a while that it may reset back (I can see the tops of the numbers...looks like they are changing with engine speed)...

No, it will not come back once it is that far gone. Do you think it got moisture in it at one time?
After I got the new one from the dealer, I washed mine and it wound up with some condensation in it. I actually seperated the plastic and dried it out, then started removing it each time I wash it. I thought about adding a mechanical hour meter so I did not have to worry if it ever went out again. Never got that far though.

I agree but good luck. Go to jail with killers etc for a mpg clock...LMAO...

couldn't you just apply the 12V to it or pull the fuel pump and shutoff solenoid fuse and leave the key on for the number of hours you need to add? If might take a week to do, but possible this way I think..

Both of those would work!
