Guys

Stopped into the New York State Farm show on Thursday and discussed the issue with the Kubota eastern regional sales mgr. Jereme Cook. He did not know the gear ratio off hand and said it was somewhere between 1.4/1.6 but there were minor differences in gear ratio between the 30 series so I suggested he give me his card and I would e-mail him the request as a reminder. I have not received a mail back yet. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I just got the answer from Jeremy. Drum roll please........1.5819 for the 4330 and 4630. He said other grand l's are different. He suggested that calculations are based on statit loaded radius but I still come up with 3% lag with these figures in place!! Guess I will be looking at these 12X16.5's after all.

Is there a list of the drive ratios somewhere on the net for tractors by brand or model?

Now I'm curious about my new L3400DT on R4's, it is similar to the grands with this problem.

I did a breif search for such info but no luck. Here is the Kubota rep's e-mail, perhaps you can get your ratio from him. By the way, are you a fighter pilot?

Guys,

There is a method whereby you can determine your lead/lag ratio regardless of whether the gear ratio is known.
Read here:

http://www.firestoneag.com/tiredata/info/info_lead.asp

I cut a piece of cardboard to the diameter of the front wheel and divided the circle into 10, 36 degree segments using a protractor. You can then tape the cardboard disk onto the front tire using one of the segment marks at the bottom, mark the rear tire at the bottom and proceed per directions.
Results with this field test showed my 3830 having a 2% lag with the 17.5-24 r4s. My dealer exchaged the 17.5-24s for the 420/70-24s(stock on the 3130 and 3430) and with these tires the field test results in a 3% lead which is nearly ideal.
This field test method will work on any 4x4 tractor with any tire combination.

Guys

For everyone with Grand L tractors 3830, 4330, 4630 and 5030 here is an option that will slide you into a lead condition!

http://www.galaxytire.com/pages/ProductDetail.asp?product_id=596&cat_id=1

these will fit on the OEM rims (which I mistakenly identified as being 9.5 wide) and offer a 1 inch larger diameter than the Titans. The Static loaded radius gets us into the lead condition we would have never known we didn't have if it were not for the internet!
