lead substitutes

I suspect you are correct that the MMO is doing the trick and the lead probably isn't needed. The old timer that lives across the hill and works on my tractors for me started me on the MMO when the valves were sticking and I'm not sure how I got started on the lead. However since my brother gave me two bottles of substitue that each mixes 320 gallons it has been added for many years now and I have enough for another couple years.

Sounds expensive to me - but then I would run that fuel through my 4 gassers in about 6 months..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have put thousands of hrs on various models of older gas tractors using unleaded gas with no additives with no valve problems so I'm of the opinion that lead subs are a waste of money.

Since Im in the market for an old tractor Ive given this some thought and wanted to run this by you all: At least 2 mfgs offered mdls in gas and propane. I figure theyd use the same motor for both fuels. If you run propane then there certainly wouldnt have been any additives for the valves. I would think then that running unleaded would be OK as they were originally setup not to depend on lead in the fuel. Am I wrong?
