My dad needs something pto driven that can help him with his leaves. I searched the topic, and found about 5 links to different types. the Trac-Vac system seems pretty simple. Would that be a good choice for him? Can anyone suggest something better?
You didn't mention what tractor or any details and your bio is empty. If you have to go PTO driven you will either need to go with a factory model (where available) or aftermarket. Trac-Vac makes a good unit as do the others. I believe the aftermarket PTO units are all trailers. This offers good volume and easy attachment but you tradeoff manuverability and storage space.
If he doesn't need to backup much and has plenty of storage space then it sounds like it should work well. Keep in mind he'll need enough HP to run the deck and blower. About the time it bogs down is when it will plug up.
Thanks for the reply. He has a 1969 Massey Ferguson model 135. I don't know the horsepower, but it is a 4 cyl gas engine (Continental engine I think). It has plenty of power to run PTO attachments like bush hog mower deck, and a big auger (18" I think).
I couldn't find any models that were not pull behind type trailers. A three point mounted system would be cool, but dad has always had to make those kind of things fit his Massey.
I saw some on e-bay, new in box. The ad said it takes 7 days to get the adaptor so it picks up the discharge from the mower. They trailer behind and have their own engine. Still it is a place to search.
The gas MF 135 did indeed have a Continental 4-cylinder (145CI) engine that developed 35.36HP @ 2000RPM according to Nebraska Tractor Test 889.....................chim
