I don't recall exactly the sheet metal gauge - 22 or 20, I think. It seemed a bit light (but it was handy) until after I had it welded up, then it seemed plenty sturdy enough.

MossRoad,

I was also considering a PTO-powered setup using a belt drive at about a 6:1 ratio. However by the time you add a drive shaft, a couple of sets of pillow blocks, shafts, the hubs, the pulleys, the belt, a belt gaurd, and the compexity of assembly, just using a seperate small gas engine was probably cheaper and easier.

The 7.5 HP engine was $250 including shipping. You could easily stay under $200 if you went with a 5HP engine which would be plenty for just leaf vac (no chipper).

The Agri-Fab part prices are on their web site www.speedepart.com. Download the PDF parts manual first for part numbers.

63894 Impeller Assy, Comp $89.62
63993 Housing Assy, Inner $41.46
24633 Housing Assy, Outer $28.56

If you want the parts for the chipping:
742-0544 Balde, Chipper $25.14 (2X)
681-0068A Assy, Chute (Painted) $44.32
63376 Assy, Upper Chipper Chute $50.32
731-1617 Tamper (Plug) $51.32

Hi, I am new to this forum and I am really really impressed with the comtent of this site especially build it yourself section... which leads me to my question...... I want to build a trailed leaf / grass collector for my mower and I am needing a fan / blower assembly. I already have lots of 8" pipe and a purpose built tipping trailer, so really I am on the lookout for a blower impellor anf housing. I see you went with the agrifab equipment. Could you tell me what size shaft the engine has to have to accept the agrifab impellor. Is it tapered or straight with a keyway. Is it steel or plastic? the only other major problem is that we stay in the UK (Scotland). I wonder if they will ship over here??
Any advice you can give me would be really appreciated.
Many thanks,
Richard

Not to hijack your thread but someone mentioned powering a leaf vac with a PTO. This is my version of PTO power without the added expense / maint, of a seperate motor. I have the basic platform finished along with the 8" take offs for a flex hose to connect the 4110s mid mounted mower to the vacuum. I was planning on a similar trash can holding containers due to compactness and ability to grab and unload onto the transport trailer. I also built a 14k 12' dump trailer so it will eliminate the hand unloading. I am primarily interested in vacuuming pine needles that I am so blessed with. This is a cheap and easy build ( if it works out properly ) less that seventy dollars so far. This is a great site to share and learn new approaches to everyday problems.
