BTW, I got your PM! Thanks, seems the DB error went away.

Thanks,

Any update? Did you get parts ordered?

Did you determine if it's just seals leaking or if you blew the valve?

Did you ever say anything to the farm store? I know you don't want to push the issue unless it's a valve toast. But curious what their response was

Ordered the parts this morning from SC. I didn't want spend a day trying to find them when each store is +20 miles from here. One stop shopping, done.

No word on the valve but did find a local guy that says he can rebuild it. Of course, I have no idea what's going in the valve damage-wise - if any. Also a moot point until I can get the valve hooked up correctly.

I haven't needed dog food since this started, so no, no conversation with the farm store yet. I plan to have that conversation once I have everything back together and know if there is permanent damage to the valve. I can then can point to this thread since it has the pics already in it etc. Don't know if that's the best way, but it is documented.

Anyone have any idea what was going on with the valve? How could it possible seem to work *fine* when it wasn't even connected to the tank? How did it work?

Possible damage to the tractor's hydraulic pump?

Thanks again for all the help!

ETA: And oh by the way, I went back and looked at your olf RR thread. Didn't take but a couple posts to find those two pics of your Chief valve - with three hoses coming off of it, the PB plug installed into the correct port and the pic with the P, PB and R (return/tank) ports clearly marked on your FEL hydraulic block. I feel like an idiot for not checking, especially since mine was out in the open. :(

High case pressure won't always crack a casting. But it will usually blow seals eventually. Once the seals go, Case pressure drops considerably ;-)

Running without a case drain/ return to tank may not effect the "working of the valve" Buty it's not good for the valve or seals either.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Tightening up those spool end caps was not helping ;-)

Hooked up with no PB and the tank port feeding your 3ph works just like your 3rd function works. You third function don't have PB, because the tank tassages are pressure rated. So yeah, everything works like it should without PB.

The issue is what it's feeding. Your chief valve isn't the last in line. It still has to feed the 3ph.

So the amount of pressure on the tank line is directly related to how much pressure is in the 3ph circuit.

Meaning that with nothing on the 3ph (or something very light) there is very little pressure.

Put something heavy on the 3ph though, that takes 1500psi to lift.....that 1500psi has to come directly from your chief valves tank passage, when it should come through a high pressure PB.

So you were likely just fine up until you tried to use something heavy on the 3ph.

Like my 1000 lb 286 Bushhog.

Parts are supposed to be here Thursday PM. Just in time for the rain F-S-S. :(

Yeah, 1000# of cutter back there, probably imparted 1000-1200psi on your tank port, give or take a bit. Add the surges/spikes from it bouncing....

Yeah, a little too much for the tank port to handle.

Ok, so here's a prgress report, it's most good.

Parts came in Thursday PM, minus one part that is on back order. No biggie, I can work around it.

Installed them yesterday morning - sorry no pics yet, my bad.... No problem installing the parts except the new Tee at the hydraulic block for the the new Tank line; there isn't enough clearance coming out of the block and the right hand FEL support bar, see old pic attached.

Again, no biggie but I did have to kludge that connection a bit. Fortunately, I had two extra -8 JIC 90's that it took to do the job, otherwise I would have had to remove the support bar and clearance it.

Ran the tractor for a bit yesterday, not a lot (long enough to move +450 lbs of concrete and steel into my shop) but it was enough to get it warmed up. No apparent leaks from the Chief valve!!! I do have small leak at the hydraulic block, so I'll take a look at that today. Good weather today, then apparently 3-4 days of rain, I better get to work!

Thanks,

P.S. Don't ever buy hydraulic hoses with NPTM ends, what a pain in the butt!!! The JIC-ended hose was very much easier to deal with.

Male pipe threads on the end of the hose are okay of you are threading it into a npsm fitting.

Npsm fitting are real similar to jic in that it's a swivel, and it's a mechanical seal needing no tape or sealant.

So the hoses you had, threaded directly into a pipe threads bore....you would have needed one of these
