leaking NPTF quick connects

/ leaking NPTF quick connects #21
About the only thing is to try some PTFE sealer and let it cure overnight, or use some tape. When you put the tape on, wind it around the fitting clockwise while looking at the end of the thread. That way it won't unravel when you thread it in.

I leave 2-3 threads uncovered at the end of the fitting, it keeps the tape where it belongs and not in the fluid. I generally use half a dozen wraps of tape, enough that the fitting will thread in 1/4 or 1/3 of the way by hand.

Hard to believe this won't seal up, half of the free world is assembled with NPT fittings. Unless there's a mis-match or manufacturing defect in one of the parts, which is possible.

Good luck.

Does this stuff need to cure?

Possibly, but I wouldn't know the difference.

I am thinking about just doping them up good and cranking the **** out of them and if it don't work, buying some more adapters and quick connects and starting again. If I could, I would rather not use the NPTF couplers, but that is all I can find.
Use this stuf.
Highside -Leak Lock
Clean threads, apply liberally to male, screw together tight, give it a few minutes and youre good to go. ... Also, I know you tried, but tape should work, as Chilly807 said. Maybe didnt do enuf wraps?:confused2:

It's possible they sent you ORB female ends on the quick connects instead of NPTF. If so they'll keep leaking. I think they're the same thread-per-inch count.

Mine don't leak a drop, and they're sealed with you-know-what.

Sounds like this may be the problem.

Well, warmed up enough to look at this today. Out of the 6 fittings it appears only 2 were leaking. I removed them both and cranked the heck out of them in my vise with a nice cheater pipe on my wrench. I then re-installed them and so far things look good without any leakage. Time will tell.
If they do leak I will likely try doping them up with one of the recommended sealers and give it another whirl before I break down and buy some new fittings. It ain't easy being cheap!

Thanks you all for your help.
