Leaky battery

I upgraded to an Exide cylinderical cell battery (purchased from Sam's Club) before any leakage issues developed.

That would have been a great idea and it turns out that after a bit iof searching on this forum I should have been warned since there are many examples of this happening, even on Kiotis.

I just bought an orbital AGM battery made by exide, a starting battery with 1000 CCA, black just like yours TBDonnely but a newer model, for a whoppin 111$ at Napa about 5 minutes ago. I am glad to see it will fit in the hole and the wires will reach though I was pretty confident. Too bad the terminals are switched, the battery will have to sit in their backwards with the label facing the radiatior.

The Napa guy charged me a 5$ core charge and says he will take all 14 of the batteries I have found on my property. I will keep the walmart battery for a backup after I check the acid levels.

The "OEM" battery only had 720 CCA while this one with 1000 CCA at 32 should give me great performance.

Highbeam,
Any chance the blown fuse for the meter has anything to do
with the battery boiling? I think you were talking about
an ampmeter or voltmeter on your tractor.

Sorry, when I re-read your post, I got the message. you
were talking about a handheld meter.

I have a handheld multimeter that I can use to verify the proper output voltage from the running alternator. If the voltage is too high it will actually boil a battery's acid causing gasses to come out and acid to boil over. Might cause the battery to explode too. I blew the handheld meter's internal fuse by using the multimeter to measure volts but had it on the amps setting and the internal fuse isn't real common for replacement. I'm not real sure if the Kioti dash mounted idiot light will alert me to a high voltage situation.

I'm a home watching the girls tonight while momma teaches ballet so I won't be able to swap the battery until tomorrow.

The pic shows why I need to keep a close eye on them. Trouble they are.

The manufacturer claims the orbital batteries are completely leakproof and will actually work underwater. This got me to thinking..... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hmm..........

Caution: Do not try this at home!

I'm not to sure if I'd trust the dash light either. That's why they are called idiot llights. They usually go off when something has totally failed. My battery is from the New Castle Battery Co., put in by the dealer and says it's a sealed type. No leaks yet with 97 hours. Maybe you have one of the cells going bad in your battery if your charging voltage is correct. It might be worth having it tested. Maybe one other choice for a battery. I have a cub cadet lawn tractor for mowing grass and went to Walmart for a battery. It uses a full size battery instead of one of those little ones. I found a battery that had a molded in pipe for a hose connection so any boilover could be run down to the ground. That might help but doesn't explain why yours is leaking all the time.

You are too funny Don. You always come up with some good photo editing.

The battery lasted, but the oil was screwed!

Usually the leaking is actually boil-over from being overcharged.
