Lean-to flashing

My brother is wanting to add a lean-to on his polebarn but we re needing info on how to flash it so it want leak. I told him he needed to remove all side tin then build lean-to, then cut tin and reinstall, or can he put the ledger board over the tin then build and flash the best he can.
Does anyone make special flashing just for this Purpose or would you need to cut the tin and put the flashing up behind it.

The manufacturers of metal siding/roofing products also make a full line of flashings. Helps to know who made the side walls of the existing.

I added a lean to to my pole barn garage. I used 2X8 supports for the roof, I think. This put the roof a few inches under the eave of the existing roof. I picked up a flashing at Home Depot made for this purpose. It's kind of an L shape and attaches to the roof support under the eave. It then flows water over the new roof if any blows in from the side. I got it in blue to match the trim.
