LED bar light experience?

Automotive sealed beam incandescent have been 60 watt for high beam and 55 watt for low beams for years..... Where are you getting the 25 watt numbers...

Dale

Believe your correct, sorry, but the portion about gov't and regulations is the point I wanted to make.

The best definition of light is LUMENS but being a more recently used term not all folks relate.
We have been WATTED forever.

When they state something like 250 watt LEDS its the equivalent of incandescent lighting.... The real telling thing is lumens.... Generally LEDs draw something like only 10-15 % of what a incandescent lamp draws...

Dale

It's not always equivalent watt rating, especially with these monster sized lights being sold now. The light bar the OP listed is 180 watts, and there are light bars out there well over 250 watts. That's actual watts, with lumens in the crazy range.

Before the Lumens, there was "candlepower" Companies boasted a kazillion CP on their lights. Wasn't any different, still overrated. Jc Whitney, take your pick of lights. A couple of european like Lucas, Hella, Bosch and Cibie made outstanding lights for the rally car market. I still have a 50 year old Cibie Super Oscar that was my go to light on many vehicles. Now, for the money, Rigid is the one. Cost more, yes. Quality comes at a price. I have a 10 inch Rigid that will outperform 2 20 inch Chinese bars at once. Had a problem with it, sent it back for repair, lifetime warranty. They sent me a new one free of charge. On my tractor I chose cheap Chicom Amazon lights. Not plowing or blowing at 70 mph. Even the cheap lights will shine 2-300 ft, plenty for the job at hand. If they crap out, no problem, no jab in the pocket. At the price point, to reduce shipping just purchase a few spares.

I've never bought any LED bar or fixture that wasn't from Rigid. Top quality stuff made in the USofA. I was unable to sell my 20" bar that came off my 2014 2500HD so it sits on a shelf waiting to be reused someday. My 2016 truck had so much custom Rigid lighting on it I wasn't taking it all apart at trade in time. The 2018 has 4 D2 fixtures in the opening for the tranny cooler. I really wanted a curved bar for the grill but it was going to be too much work.
I installed a 50" on a TJ Jeep for a guy. That puppy is bright!!!

Dale, which model Jeep?

2002 Wrangler X.... Did not come with fog lamps, but have acquired stock lamp switch and wired in relay and just can not decide what lamps are appropriate... TO finish wiring and mounts not a issue, but would like to keep with original "bumper" mount concept...

A 250 watt LED light bar aught to melt a hole in side of the barn.... Not exactly buying your argument...

IF you can show the spec sheet with amperage draw, your argument would be more believable...

Dale, I have the 2001 Wrangler TJ. My LED 22" light bar is bolted to the hood in the center and angled slightly to the right. My 1,000,000 cp each, 'aircraft landing lights' are mounted at the lower corners of the windshield. The ACls are incandescent and suck crazy power, (they need to go through a relay), also you should be moving when you turn them on or they will overheat and crap out.
You should check with the law, most states and some Provinces do not allow forward facing lights brighter than headlights above the center-line of the stock headlights.

Pretty much a ware of the laws in Cali.... Still need to decide what LEDS I want, it not been a real issue, but "some day"... Did replace stock sealed beams with H4's some time back and It made a world of difference though...

I considered LED lights. But I'm retired and have no need to do tractor work at night. However - from what I've personally witnessed - 50W marine flood lights would be my choice. I've worked on fishing boats in AK. They use these lights for night time fishing. Turns the work area to bright daylight out about a quarter of a mile.

The ones used are from JK McDermott out of NY state. LED, 50 watt, 12V, 3800 lumen, 130 degree spread. They are designed to work in a marine environment.... So, no problems with vibration or water tightness.

I replaced my headlights with LEDs and that made a huge difference over the H4s I had in. The cops around here don't hassle you about your headlights as long as you aren't blinding people.
