B3200, L5740,
I am looking to put on a few extra lights on my B3200 but I want to avoid overloading the 15amp alternator so I want led's because the have such a low current draw. Does anyone have any experience with led work lights? Are they as good a decent halogen? Are there any available with a built in switch?
Thanks to anyone that has any info.:D

I put 3 12 watt LEDs on my L275 (whimpy 40 Amp alternator) - two in front and one on the rear. Excellent bright and very white light. I'm really pleased. Bought them from Autolumination. About $60 each. Searched TractorByNet for some good threads on this and others recomendations sent me that route.

Here's a link - about a third down the page, round 4 1/2" x 1.5" 6 x 2 watt units.

Semi-Truck, Trailer, Bus LED Light Bulbs

Since they're such low amperage I didn't bother with relays.

I also like the idea of LED's just can't afford them right now. I have a few LED flashlites and think they're great.

A little off track, I was watching the news this morning and they were saying what a terrible time they're having with directional lights in the country. Seems the new lights get covered with snow so bad that no one can see what is what. The LEDs don't put of the heat like the old setups so the snow sticks to them.

I agree LEDs are the way to go - I used what i had on my last tractor so i used them and although not LED "work lights" I did install a couple of LEDs on my ROPS turning signal bracket so when I vernture out on the street when I plowed snow the on coming traffic will see me. Man are these things bright!

Those are pretty slick. Any chance of posting or emailing some night time photos?
Thanks,

I'll try to remember to get some night shots. Suffice it to say they are pretty much like the photo on the Autolumination website as to brightness. The neat thing about LEDs is how bright and white the light is. Feels like daytime! Here they are on the L275;

JB, do you find that snow sticks to them while blowing? I chose halogen for the worklight and replaced my headlights with LED to free up amperage on my dynamo.

No sticking problem - but I've only blown twice. Last time the whole tractor got coated by blown snow - couple inches thick on the hood. Maybe the lights are high enough that it wasn't a problem. Its good to get out of that darn over-heated cab and into the fresh air once in awhile anyway, so if I have to wipe them off it won't be a big deal.

<sarcasm> You poor soul, it must suck to be warm and dry when clearing snow. AND facing frontwards to boot! </sarcasm> :)

I hear ya kuboman.
My Kubota B7800 has a 14.? amp dyno in it.
I am presently running two 35 watt incandesant utility lights pointing rearward,
but I usually only run one at a time.
I want to add two more lights pointing forward, but I'm affraid two more 35 watt lights would be too much for the 14.? amp dyno.
So after some googling I found and just ordered four 12 volt LED Utility Lights P/N 1492110 $33.46 each from Kaffenbarge Truck Equipment
(1492110) 12 Volt LED Utility Light - Truck Equipment, Truck Bodies, Truck Accessories & Equipment Parts - Kaffenbarger Truck Equipment Ohio Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, New Carlisle
The LEDs are a Buyers Product (Northern Tools also sells them, online only about $40).
I contacted Buyers to find out the amperage, they said they are about 1 amp for each Light assy, if true thats about 12 watts each, I think.
Hope to have them installed before the next snowstorm.
Just hope they are bright enough too.
I'll give ya an update once they're installed.

Sorry this took me so long. Couch potato and all. Here are some night shots to give you a better idea of the LED's performance. Very white and bright light. Me like. I turned off all the shop and outside lights except one garage light visible in one pic.

now, that's LIGHT!! Am sure it's better in real life versus the photo...Good job!

Well, I ordered LED lights from the same company as Just Bob, but opted for the square 18w. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best mounting point - thinking originally that the threaded nut welded to the ROPS would work best. But, the problem with that location is that it leaves the lights vulnerable if the ROPS is folded (too high up) - and the design of the base wouldn't allow me to hang them upside-down, as the ROPS is angled backward, which would have resulted in the lights pointing toward the sky. So, I decided to mount the bases to the hole just underneath the threaded nut - man was that a hassle! If you look closely, the hole has the lower ROPS edge just behind it, so you can't stick a bolt through from the backside and you can't get a nut in either since it has very little depth. I finally found an M6 bolt with a hex head that I could tap into place from above using a punch (stainless, which was soft enough to knick the edge and force in from the back).

Wired them with a fused relay, even though they draw very little and bought a waterproof, lighted rocker switch from VETCO. I put the switches in the plastic plate to the right of the seat, just behind the 3pt. lever. Overall, I'm very pleased with the installation - I'll just have to see how bright they are tonight. The bumemr is that one of the LED units has 2 of 4 lights blown, so I'm going to have to exchange. Naturally, this requires resoldering and rerunnig the zip ties. Oh well.

If they're bright enough, I'm going to replace my dual-beam Hella worklamp off the back with one as well. The Hella has 2 55w bulbs, which draw plenty. Of course, it's nice and bright, so I may leave well enough alone.

Here's some pictures:

I'm interested to see how things turn out for you tonight. Let us all know.

Well, I'm very happy! These lights are unbelievably bright. They make the stock lights look like a nightlight in comparison. In fact, there's no real need to turn on the headlights. And, unlike my John Deere, the positioning of them on the ROPS doesn't blind me in the corner of my eyes. On my old tractor, I had to take a pair of old trailer license plates and zip-tie them to the ROPS:

Anyone with $150 burning a hole in their pocket should consider them. And if your budget's more like $75 (as mine should have been), I can tell you one lamp assembly's enough!

Sorry it took so long getting back.
I was hoping we'd get a snowstorm,
(got rain instead) to get a better
idea how these Leds would work in a snowstorm.
I'm hoping the snow won't build
up on the lenses too much from lack of heat.
These Leds were about $34 each.

I'd love to get LED tractor lights as my dynamo is puny, but I'm going to wait until prices come down. I noticed at Costco the other day that they carry 110V LED spotlights for less than $20 - so that tells me the prices on LEDs are coming down.

In the meantime, I'd have to envy you rich guys. :D

Would you mind posting the part numbers for the lights, relay, and switches. I really like that setup and would like to do the same thing. Thanks

The lights came from the website that Just Bob listed on page 1 of this thread (second posting down). Autolumination.com. They're the 18 watt square ones.

The switches came from vetco.net and are part number NTE-54-231W (red 20A 12v waterproof rocker switch) at $8.30 each.

The fused relays are Hella, available from any local shop that sells Hella lights. I'm sure any autoparts store has an equivalent, but over the last 20 years of installing auxiliary lighting on my cars, trucks and tractors, I've only used Hella relays without fail to date.

Aside from the blown LEDs on one of the units, I'm very pleased. Word of advise: check them before soldering and installing "permanently."

I second that advise, check before you solder and install.
I had messed up Buyers LED work lights, of the four I ordered, one had 3 inop led bulbs and one had 6 inop led bulbs, they were replaced promptly and told me to keep the messed up
Led work lights. They are still usable, just not 100%.
