gsganzer,
Thanks for that link. I am going to check them out. We went to Turners this evening and she likes the O/U better than the semi-autos. The youth model should fit like a glove.

I took an auto loader bird hunting exactly twice.. both were brownings.. both jammed.. somebody else got the birds I was looking at.

It's now DBL-barrel.. or pump action only for me.. and I do fine with them.

I used to feel the same way. I started out with a 16 ga O/U; later on when I got to where a third shot "would be nice" I bought a 12 ga 870 Remington. Used it exclusively for 13 years.

Then a coworker fell on hard times and had to raise money, so I bought his 20ga LT20 1100 Remington to help him out. I didn't want it, I didn't trust autoloaders.

But curiosity got the better of me and I tried it. I found I could hit birds harder, farther away with that 20 than I ever did with the 12. I used that gun until I quit hunting birds and never had a single jam. Of course, I didn't have a 20 ga reloader so was always shooting factory loads but it never jammed once. My favorite shell was the Remington ShurShot. I tried AA's in it once but they apparently didn't pattern well as I couldn't hit squat with them.

If I wanted a gun for a left hander, I think I'd look at O/U's or side by sides. The resale value of left handed guns might be limited.

After reading all these posts and doing some shopping at the gun stores, Loretta has decided she would rather have an O/U in 20 gage. Now it's a matter of which one. She is really getting into it and is reviewing the specs herself. She will still need to get it fitted though.

Let us know what you decide.

To Loretta, You go girl!!! There's nothing hotter then a woman hunting with her man!! Your husband will be the envy of all his friends.:D Just don't hurt his ego too much, by out shooting him.:p

Hard to beat an o/u for birds or clays.. I've got one ( 12ga) and love it for both.

Well thanks to all who posted the different models to look at. We will be going up to the property several times before and during September, since Loretta has gotten the bug to shoot Doves this season.

I ended up ordering (two) 20 gage over/under Stoeger (Condor Supreme) shotguns. One for Wes and one for Loretta. Wes got the youth model and Loretta got the 26" barrel on hers. I checked the palm swell out and it was zero offset...neutral. So thank you for making me aware of that model. It is a good beginner O/U for both of them. On the low end, but what the heck, I am not a rich man? They have automatic ejectors and the price is right for two of them.

We also got a clay bird throwing machine to practice. She is having fun killing clays now. She and Wes are enrolled in a Hunter Safety Training Course so they can get their licenses before the September 1st dove opener.

Rob,

Congrats on the firearms. Any chance you could share some pics and what you paid for them?

Thanks Eddie,
I bought them through a gun dealer in Woodlake, about 20 minutes from my property. He had to order them in and then you know there is that lousy 10 day waiting period here. So I don't have them yet. I paid list for the Condor Supremes, $350 each. It was hard to find a dealer who could get them anywhere around where I live in Southern CA, so when he said he could, I went for it.
Here is a link to their website with pictures and description:
Firearms - Condor - Stoeger Industries

On Edit...
So there is no misunderstanding, when Loretta was shooting clays this weekend, she used my shotguns.
Browning 20 gage SxS
Weatherby Orion 12 gage O/U
Remington 1100 12 gage autoloader.
She does not have her gun yet but is itching to get it now.

Rob,

Thanks, that's allot less then I'd have thought you could get them for!!!

Please keep us updated on them when you get them. I'm very curious to hear your reviews on their quality and your overall impression of how they shoot.

Eddie
