You're probably a better man than myself, but for myself, shooting a shoulder fired rifle in 7.62 on full auto is a waste of time. Too much muzzle rise and a waste of ammo, again, at least for myself.

Right now I live in Lexington, KY - very... uh... let's just say that the sheriff, well, she won't sign off on the class III deal, nor will the county coroner, so in Lex that law doesn't seem to help the private citizens. However, we plan to move to Richmond, closer to or out on our farm in the spring. They are much more "rural" of a town than Lex and we should have better luck. Of course then there's the matter of the finances. My gun money is tied up in tractor stuff right now. I actually sold the Thompson to assist in the FEL budget. I loved the Thompson, but a semi-auto Thompson is pitiful. Full auto, it would probably be my fav too. I tried one of those external trigger mods for my AR-15. Worked kind of well. You could get a few bursts before it jammed. I used wolf in my first AR and I think the steel jackets damaged the feed ramp (not sure) but it wasn't too reliable. Never bothered with that thing on my current AR. Use better ammo and have never had a problem. But it's still semi. The FN - that's my favorite. .308 with an integral bi-pod, "the right arm of the free world." It's not full auto, but squeezing that puppy off as fast as I can it sure feels good. Enough to get a 5 gal bucket dancing in the air.![]()
I went to the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot but the day I was there they only rented .50 cal and flame throwers, no smaller arms. Oh well. Maybe next time.

I think the whole concept of private ownership of a full auto weapon is the waste of time / ammo that comes with the ownership.
Kinda like owning an antique / classis roadster type car that gets 3-4mpg, but is all chromed and cherry'd up and can bark the tires in all gears.. etc. IE.. no practical value.. just 'big boy toys'.. etc..

Spiveyman said:Well, it's not full auto, and even firing semi-auto it's way better to lay prone and put your shoulders into it. You can control pretty well like that. But I wouldn't consider it a waste of ammo, that's the whole point of going full auto.
the_sandman_454 said:Well with home invasions on the rise, maybe it wouldn't be too bad to have an auto or at least something with burst capability if only it were affordable. The prices of the firearms are ridiculously high thanks to the various bans (like the 86 ban). Can't sell any new ones, or bring any new ones in for private citizenry use, which keeps the prices high for the few that are available. I would like to see a repeal of these ridiculous bans. They aren't doing anything to help keep anyone safe anyway.
Spiveyman said:Yeah, I thought about that rout, but right now it's more about the cost than the law.
Spiveyman said:I don't think that would bring the prices down. The assault weapons ban expired and everyone said that the cost of AR's and Mags would plummet, but they haven't. Even the crap made during the ban without the evil stuff is still expensive.
Sigarms said:Agreed to a certain extent, however if the bullet does not hit it's intended target, for myself, it's a wasted round (not much use for supressive fire in civilian life). Although I haven't shot a FAL on full auto, I have on an M-14, and I can't control the weapon on full auto, thus, it serves no purpose, at least for myself.
