I did not realize MO had that law. Here no such thing. Only do paper when you buy from a dealer. Private sales are open. I did my CC in MO and KS since I live on the border with Kansas City. Registering was not covered.

I believe James was referring to his research concerning gun laws in Michigan. Missouri has no registration requirement.

No, NOT Missouri.. I was answering his question about Michigan.

We don't have any registration here or permit to purchase anymore. Open carry is legal in rural areas, and now since November, municipalities cannot pass laws against it either. Although this may be challenged. Also anyone can carry open OR concealed without a permit in an automobile and on their person as long as they stay in their auto. They of course must be able to legally possess the firearm. If they get out, they must have a concealed carry permit. The permit age was also lowered to 19 in November.

Carrying while bicycling [Archive] - Calguns.net

Perhaps other states are more prone to crime, but I don't know of anyone I bicycle with in Massachusetts that would even consider carrying a firearm while out bicycling. Pepper spray or similar to deter occasional dogs, but that's about it. Safety in numbers, ride with a group.
Note... I am not an anti-gun person, I have an LTC, own several firearms. I never carry for a reason of self defense, I just don't feel the need, however if an unwelcome intruder entered the house I wouldn't hesitate.

My apologies. Thanks for the clarification. KS is going to allow CC without a license unless you plan to carry in other states. Open carry is permitted except in private businesses that post no firearms.

Gun laws here in Missouri have been fading away for about the last 10 years or so. We finally got concealed carry here in 2004, (better late than never), then the permit to purchase handguns went away, which often in many jurisdictions included a waiting period of 3 to 10 days. It was at the whim of the Sheriff. Some Sheriff's had no waiting period, some did not want to issue the permits at all. But in any case that is all gone, Now the open carry thing has changed, preventing municipalities from passing laws more restrictive than state law. That is still somewhat if flux, as I have heard there may be suits brought by some. The Concealed carry age has dropped to 19 and the qualification requirements have relaxed about having to qualify with two firearms (revolver and pistol) to now just one or the other. Also the permit process itself is a bit easier and the DOR is no longer involved, just the Sheriff's office. A few years ago we got the right to own silencers in the state, of course the Federal laws still apply, (the $200 transfer tax and the background check and the waiting period) Same for class III weapons. Overall the gun laws in Missouri are not very onerous. Compared to some others, it is Paradise.

I think we are headed in that direction for Concealed Carry too. I do hope people will take some training though. I stand ready to help!

But wouldn't a fanny pack be a better option? The firearm is better protected, is under your control at all times, and draws much less attention from good and bad people alike.

Yes. I help a friend who teaches both KS and MO CC. Glad to see MO got rid of the two gun qual.

I personally long felt the permit fees charged for CCW are just a MONEY GRAB by authorities who are desperate to raise operating funds, much like charging you permit fees to alter your home. Locally here if I want to replace a window in my house they want me to pay for a permit and inspection unless the window I am installing is an EXACT size match for one I am replacing and no carpentry work is required. What a farce permit fees are.
