Clyde: Could you give us some idea of the cost of that building? Concrete floor or not? Thanks.

Don't know what size shed/barn you want, but here's my garage/shop that I had built last June. It's a metal pole structure, 24'x42' with 12' walls, two 10'x10' rollup doors, one 36" man door, one slider window. It's on a 6" thick concrete slab with #4 rebar in the slab criss-crossed on 24" centers.

Cost: $16,200 for the structure (installed) and $7500 for the slab. Both were built by local small contractors. The building parts can be purchased in kit form for about $11K from that contractor for the DIY types.

The main specs on my barn that you saw is this

Main building 36x72 with 14' outside walls
2 16x72 overhangs with 10' heighth openings (making building 68x72)
2 12x12 sliding doors (1 front and 1 back)
1 12x72 hay loft with 8' head clearance
1 4x4 cupola
4 ridge vents
1 bale door
1 entry door and 1 window
roof insulation over entire roof
lifetime warranty of metal from fade or rust

Took 5 days to build and cost 38k. There is not a concrete floor. What I did was built 8 horse stalls, back filled with ballpark clay. layed asphalt down the isleway, poored 4 12x12 areas with concrete for a office, tack room, feed room, utility room plus a asphalt 6' apron. Nice thing about the wood posts is that it is easy to frame up 6" stud walls and attach them. All the posts in the ground have post protectors to eliminate rot or insect issues which the manufacture states will last a lifetime. All posts are CCA treated. Pooring concrete afterwards is easy since the bottom skirting around the entire main building is a 2x6 pressure treated board, so that gives you your forms. New barn being built is going to be shaped the same, but with some different options .\

Bottom line is over 5700 usable square footage costing roughly $6.60 sq ft.

To stir the pot a little more, got this from the FAQ page of National Barn

<font color="blue"> As of the fall of 2005, over 7000 buildings have been constructed under the National Barn Co. nameplate.

Better yet, ask if the company owns the crew or if it is subcontracted out.

The quotes are in. I'm a little disappointed, because I didn't receive quotes from some of the companies that said they would give me one. This is the building I settled on and received quotes for:

Dimensions - 24' x 32' x 10'
10' Split Sliding Door on Eave Side
36" Walk-Through Door on Gable End
Side Lighting (Eave Lighting) on Both Sides
Gable Vents
Single 24" Cuppola
1' Eave Overhangs (Vented)
1' Gable Overhangs (Vented)

Some of the companies have some little extras standard, but I don't think enough to effect the comparison on quotes. Two of the companies would add a surcharge for renting a generator and for special delivery, because a tractor-trailer wouldn't be able to make it into the building site (Lester & National).

Here's the quotes:

Pioneer Pole Buildings - $11,790
Lester - $13,345
National Barns - $10,790
H&L Builders - $10,832

The unfortunate thing about this project is that I've been dealing with sciatica for a few months and was scheduled for my 2nd back clean-up on May 19th. Monday I took a turn for the worse and had to be picked-up from work, because I couldn't make it home under my own power. My surgery has been moved to next Tuesday, May 2nd, so it looks like I'll have to put this off until I've recovered enough to take care of business.
